2,000-year-old national treasure at the billion-dollar museum in Yen Bai

    Hop Minh bronze jar, one of the largest and most beautifully decorated jars of the Dong Son culture, is currently preserved at the Yen Bai Provincial Museum.

    In 1995, the militia of Hop Minh commune were digging a training trench at a depth of 50m when they discovered it on top of Choi hill, right across the Yen Bai to Van Chan bridge (right bank of the Red River). The jar was then moved to the Hop Minh commune government headquarters, Tran Yen district, Yen Bai.

    The artifact was then transferred to the commune headquarters and handed over to Yen Bai Provincial Museum on June 12, 1995.
    Thap dong Hop Minh, nien dai 2.500–2.000 nam, cao 47,4cm, nang 13,5kg, duoc duc bang khuon hai mang. Thap con nguyen ven, mau xanh gi dong, chi bi thung mot lo nho tren nap khi phat hien.
    The jar is about 2,000 - 2,500 years old, 47.4 cm high, weighs 13.5 kg, was cast in a two-piece mold and has a rusty bronze color. The artifact has a balanced cylindrical shape, a slightly bulging body, a tapered bottom, two inverted "U" shaped handles, vivid patterns, larger than the Van Thang and Xuan Lap jars but smaller than Dao Thinh. This is one of the best preserved jars ever.

    As the pride of Dong Son culture of Yen Bai province, Hop Minh bronze jar was recognized as a national treasure by the Prime Minister for the second time on December 30, 2013.

    In addition to the Hop Minh bronze jar, Yen Bai Provincial Museum also displays 24,946 artifacts.
