Hanoi - The name of Hang Long ancient town is proposed to be restored, giving the name to the road from Tran Binh Trong intersection to Yet Kieu intersection.

According to the proposal to rename the street that will be submitted to the City People's Council for approval at the 25th session, Hanoi wants to restore Hang Long Street for a 174m long road. This road is about 7m wide, with 3m of sidewalks on each side.

This section of the road is paved with asphalt, trees, and urban lighting systems. Some sections are degraded.

On the street, there are many headquarters of agencies such as the Institute of Occupational Safety and Hygiene Science under the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the Guest House of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the back of the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Labor Cultural Palace, the Capital Labor Newspaper...

Currently, many agency headquarters located on the street are expected to restore the name Hang Long. Photo: Pham Huyen

Hang Long Street is an ancient name in the ancient Hoan Kiem District, originally located on the land of Cung Tien Village, Tien Nghiem General, Tho Xuong District. The street name is said to have appeared since the end of the Le Dynasty, the beginning of the Nguyen Dynasty and has undergone many name changes.

The first section of Thien Ly Street going south was once called Quan Lo Street, later became Hang Long City (also known as Hang Tan, as in the folk song: Through Hang Tho Nhuom straight at Hang Tan dong).

After the peace was restored, this road was changed to the Southern Road, now the first section of Le Duan Street.

The name Hang Long originates from the fact that people here used to specialize in making and trading bonsai, boxes, and linen to serve the monks and pagodas.

On Hang Long Street, there was a temple worshiping the founder of the embroidery and embroidery profession, Le Cong Hanh. This area also once had Hang Long alley, but it has been cleared to serve the national defense and security project.

It is expected that the proposal to rename the street will be submitted to the Hanoi People's Council for approval at the 25th session, taking place on July 8 11.

"Restoring Hang Long Street is the desire of the local government and people to preserve the name of an "old" street in Hanoi, continuing to educate the younger generations about cultural and historical traditions," the submission stated.
