Ha Giang - Asia's leading regional cultural destination
During the Lunar New Year holiday this year, Ms. Hoang Linh in Hai Ba Trung District (Hanoi) and her group of friends decided to choose Ha Giang as their first spring trip of the year. This is not the first time Ms. Linh has come to this borderland of the Fatherland. The impression from the trip to see buckwheat flowers in 2019 has urged her to return to Ha Giang for new experiences.
“This time, instead of going sightseeing, we chose to go to the villages to see the New Year atmosphere of the people in the rocky plateau, and enjoy the full beauty of spring,” Linh shared.
In fact, it is not only domestic tourists who think like that. Many foreign tourists have a good impression of Ha Giang and decide to return to this land when witnessing the magnificence of nature.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc - Director of Thang Long Viet Tourism Company, said that the company's statistics show that more than 50% of individual customers and international groups have booked a second tour to Ha Giang.
“Foreign tourists choose Ha Giang as their destination many times because along the way there are always many new things to explore and enjoy, especially the scenery and cultural customs,” said Mr. Phuc.
That is also one of the reasons why in 2023, Ha Giang was honored as "Asia's Leading Emerging Tourist Destination", and in 2024, it continued to be nominated in the category of "Asia's Leading Regional Cultural Destination".
Informing Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Hong Hai - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Giang province - said that the locality will continue to use culture as a foundation for tourism development, while taking advantage of tourism to preserve and promote local cultural values. That is also the direction towards sustainable tourism development, leaving a good impression in the hearts of tourists.
“In addition, Ha Giang is constantly diversifying tourism products, strengthening cooperation with other provinces and cities, and improving tourism competitiveness. The province aims to develop tourism into a spearhead economic sector, contributing to promoting a sustainable economy, while preserving the unique cultural identity of ethnic minorities,” said Mr. Hai.
Continuous innovation
In mid-October 2024, Mr. Tran Trong Hoang (in Bac Giang) participated in the tour "Journey to the land of memories", in which the main destinations were at the Vi Xuyen battlefield.
“Each destination is a very touching story. We read and hear a lot about the war, but only when we come here in person can we fully appreciate the values of independence and freedom, and be more grateful to the previous generations who sacrificed to protect every inch of the Fatherland,” Mr. Hoang shared.
This tourist route connects Vi Xuyen district with Ha Giang city, taking visitors to the source of the Lo River, associated with stories about the process of building and protecting the Fatherland's border. Visitors will offer incense at Vi Xuyen National Cemetery and learn about indigenous culture at the Dao ethnic cultural villages of Xa Phin hamlet, Thanh Son cultural tourism village and Tha hamlet.
In addition, adventure tourism is also being promoted in this locality. Activities such as motorbike and off-road car racing in Yen Minh and Quan Ba, kayaking on Nho Que River, paragliding in Hoang Su Phi, Quan Ba and Yen Minh have brought new experiences and attracted adventurous tourists.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh - Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration - said that Ha Giang is doing well in developing new types of tourism such as eco-tourism, adventure tourism, and community tourism associated with indigenous culture.
“Ha Giang needs to improve the quality of human resources, improve infrastructure and services, and at the same time promote through media channels, especially digital platforms, to attract domestic and foreign tourists,” Mr. Khanh shared.
