The moment of New Year's Eve of the Year of the Snake 2025 has come, many families have raised their glasses together to celebrate the coming New Year. Meanwhile, many Vietnamese people have chosen to celebrate Lunar New Year away from home to enjoy a different atmosphere.
Tour guide Truong Manh Thang (33 years old, Hanoi) boarded the plane exactly 1 hour after New Year's Eve. This was the first year he was away from home to lead a group of 33 tourists to Japan.
He could not hide his emotions: “I am also quite sad that this year's Tet is all about work. But it's okay, because I am single, I can support other colleagues with families during Tet.”
Not only do tourist groups flock to spring travel during the Tet holiday, some Vietnamese tourists tend to travel independently to enjoy their journey in their own way.
Retiring early at the age of 49, this year, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Trinh (Quang Ngai) stayed on Phu Quoc Island for Tet. After 10 years of celebrating Tet in many countries, for Ms. Trinh, every day is now Tet.
“I am the type of person who “goes against” the majority, so on New Year’s Eve, I stay in my room. In Phu Quoc, there are fireworks every day. Therefore, I will enjoy my own space in this special moment of the new year,” the female tourist revealed.
Also often "escaping" Tet, Ms. Pham Bich Hanh, 35 years old, flew to Russia on the 28th of Tet. During 12 days, she will travel through 3 provinces: Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Murmansk. The female tourist revealed that she did not have many plans for the trip but would depend on the route and destination to reach the destination as planned.
On the morning of the 29th of Tet, Ms. Hanh went whale watching in Teriberka. Then, she traveled 100km to Murmansk to admire the aurora borealis on the 1st of Tet.
The female tourist shared: “This year, I “escaped” Tet in a place where the temperature fluctuated from -20 to -10 degrees Celsius. Before the trip, I was quite looking forward to the evening of “hunting” for the aurora because this is a unique activity.”
Traveling with his wife and 3 children to Cambodia - Laos and across Vietnam during the Lunar New Year, Mr. Tran Duy (39 years old, Ho Chi Minh City) is stopping in Laos. According to the male tourist's observation, the local people do not celebrate Lunar New Year like the Vietnamese. However, because his family's area is quite close to China, the atmosphere to welcome the New Year is very bustling. His family also brought banh tet to "ease the longing for the traditional Tet atmosphere".
Mr. Duy expressed: “Family is “home”, this trip is with my wife and children, so even though I am not in my familiar house every day, I still feel happy and warm. Going out during Tet, I feel very relaxed, because I no longer have to deal with work like other trips during the year, because customers are also on Tet holiday. Moreover, we have more time to teach our children about local customs”.
The trend of traveling during Tet is not too new in Vietnam, the needs of Vietnamese tourists change every year.
According to statistics from Viet Travel Company, the best-selling routes this Tet season are tours to the North (Hanoi, Ha Long, Sa Pa, Ninh Binh) and the Central region (Da Nang, Hoi An). The favorite international destinations of tourists are Japan, China, Thailand, Taiwan (China)...
In addition, a trend that has exploded during this year’s Tet holiday is car tours to Nha Trang, Phan Thiet, Da Lat, Vung Tau, Quy Nhon, etc. departing from Ho Chi Minh City; and Sa Pa, Ha Long, Ha Giang, Ninh Binh, etc. departing from Hanoi. The reason may be due to the high price of airfares and convenient highways.
Vietluxtour estimates that the demand for travel during the Lunar New Year 2025 will increase by about 25% compared to the same period last year. This trend is especially evident in large cities such as Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, with the highest concentration in the segment of tourists traveling in groups of 2-3 generations.
