It is expected to merge the three provinces of Phu Tho, Hoa Binh, and Vinh Phuc into a new province, named Phu Tho. This locality will have up to 3 large national parks.

According to Resolution No. 60 of the 11th Central Conference, Vietnam will have 28 provinces and 6 centrally-run cities after the merger.

After completing the merger of provinces and cities, the natural areas of many localities will have significant changes compared to the present.

Of which, the three provinces of Phu Tho, Hoa Binh and Vinh Phuc "come home together" named Phu Tho province, the political and administrative center located in the current Phu Tho province.

Vinh Phuc is one of the 7 provinces and cities located in the Northern key economic region, while Phu Tho and Hoa Binh are two provinces in the midlands and northern mountainous region.

Currently, there is Xuan Son National Park in Phu Tho province. Meanwhile, Tam Dao National Park has a part of Vinh Phuc province.

Therefore, after the merger, the new Phu Tho province will have 3 national parks (Tam Dao, Xuan Son, Cuc Phuong).

Tam Dao National Park is located in the Tam Dao mountain range spanning the three provinces of Vinh Phuc, Thai Nguyen and Tuyen Quang with an area of 34,995 hectares.

Tourists visiting Tam Dao often go towards Tam Dao town, Vinh Phuc province, about 80km from Hanoi.

Cuc Phuong is the first national park in Vietnam, located on the border of the three provinces of Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa and Hoa Binh, with the largest area in Ninh Binh at present. Tourists to Cuc Phuong often enter from the main gate of the national park in Nho Quan district, Ninh Binh province.

Cuc Phuong National Park has a part of Hoa Binh. From 2019 to 2024, Cuc Phuong National Park has been honored as Asia's Leading National Park for 6 consecutive years at the World Tourism Awards (WTA).

Xuan Son National Park is located entirely in Phu Tho province with an area of 15,048 hectares. The main gate of the national park is located in Xuan Dai commune, Tan Son district, Phu Tho province.

Normally, national parks are located in many provinces and cities managed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment).

National parks are located within the boundaries of a province or city managed by the People's Committee of that province or city. Accordingly, Tam Dao and Cuc Phuong National Parks are managed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, while Xuan Son National Park is managed by the People's Committee of Phu Tho province.

Before the merger, the localities with the largest number of national parks were the two national parks in the area, including: Kien Giang (U Minh Thuong, Phu Quoc); Ca Mau (U Minh Ha, Mui Ca Mau); Binh Phuoc (Cat Tien, Bu Gia Map); Lam Dong (Cat Tien, Bidoup Nui Ba); Ninh Thuan (Nui Chua, Phuoc Binh), Dak Lak (Chu Yang Sin, Yok Don); Thanh Hoa (Cuc Phuong, Ben En).
