Returning to Ha Giang for the third time in spring, Ms. Tran Trang (39 years old, Hanoi) was impressed with the atmosphere and warm Tet culture of the highland people.
During the holidays, Ha Giang is very crowded with tourists. Anticipating this situation, she and her family booked a room before Tet, and the price was slightly higher than usual. She said that local tourism services are becoming more professional and organized.
Ms. Trang is one of tens of thousands of tourists who chose to travel to Ha Giang in the spring of the year of the Snake. This destination is increasingly affirming its name on the tourist map and in the hearts of visitors from near and far.
According to a quick report from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Giang province (DOCST), the locality welcomed about 168,600 visitors, with estimated revenue of VND418.12 billion during the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday in 2025. Of these, 10,000 were international visitors.
In particular, the number of visitors increased sharply from the second day of Tet onwards. Many accommodation facilities in Dong Van and Meo Vac were fully booked during the peak days of the Tet holiday.
Besides the beautiful natural scenery, Ha Giang in the first days of the year also attracts visitors with a series of vibrant festivals of the indigenous people since January 30 (the 2nd day of the Lunar New Year) such as the Gau Tao festival of the H'Mong people, the Long Tong festival of the Tay people, the Khen dance, folk games...
The locality also ensures security, order and safety for tourists, as well as service quality, preventing price gouging during Tet.
Previously, speaking with Lao Dong, the leader of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Giang province said that the locality will continue to use culture as the foundation for tourism development, while taking advantage of tourism to preserve and promote local cultural values. That is also the direction towards sustainable tourism development, leaving a good impression in the hearts of tourists.
In addition, Ha Giang is also constantly diversifying tourism products, strengthening cooperation with other provinces and cities and improving tourism competitiveness. The province aims to develop tourism into a spearhead economic sector, contributing to promoting a sustainable economy, while preserving the unique cultural identity of ethnic minorities.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc - Director of Thang Long Viet Tourism Company, said that the company's statistics show that more than 50% of individual customers and international groups have booked a second tour to Ha Giang.
“Foreign tourists choose Ha Giang as their destination many times because along the way there are always many new things to explore and enjoy, especially the scenery and cultural customs,” said Mr. Phuc.
Although the number of tourists to Ha Giang is quite modest compared to key localities, the tourism industry of the rocky plateau recorded a positive growth of 7.9% over the same period in 2024.
A strong start to the new year will set the stage for local tourism to accelerate in 2025.
Currently, Ha Giang province owns 63 national and provincial-level relics and scenic spots, 32 national intangible cultural heritages, and 3 national treasures including Sung Khanh Pagoda Stele, Binh Lam Pagoda Bell and Lo Lo Bronze Drum Pair.
The number of accommodation establishments has also increased significantly, reaching 1,005 establishments with 9,263 rooms and 19,199 suites.
