On July 24, according to information from the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City, the Standing Committee of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (GHPGVN) issued an Official Dispatch to the Board, Central Institute and Executive Boards of GHPGVN in provinces and cities on organizing commemorative activities to celebrate the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27, 1947 – July 27, 2026).
According to the direction of the Church, pagodas and self-governing institutions nationwide will simultaneously send three bells and Bat Nha drums at 5 am on July 27, 2026 to unanimously commemorate and express deep gratitude to the heroic martyrs who fell for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
The official dispatch clearly states that gratitude and repayment of gratitude are the basic doctrine of Buddhism, and at the same time the good tradition of the "Drink water, remember the source" of the Vietnamese nation. Every year, monks, nuns and Buddhists nationwide respectfully organize great requiem ceremonies to express gratitude for the great contributions of generations of fathers and brothers who sacrificed for the peace and happiness of the people.
On the occasion of the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day, the Standing Committee of the Executive Council requested the Executive Boards of GHPGVN in localities to guide the pagodas to organize solemn memorial requiem ceremonies.
In particular, monks, nuns, and Buddhists nationwide are called on to actively respond to the "500-day and night campaign to search, repatriate and identify martyrs' remains". In addition, self-relieve facilities need to closely coordinate with local authorities to implement meaningful social security activities such as visiting and giving gifts to encourage wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, families of martyrs and people with meritorious services to the revolution, contributing to spreading the spirit of gratitude deeply in the community.
