Border Guard Station of Tho Chau (Kien Giang Border Guard) is the station stationed in the farthest island in the province. The unit is tasked with managing and protecting territorial sovereignty, waters, islands and the entire sea area of Tho Chu islands. In addition, the unit is also in charge of managing and protecting the status quo of the basic point A1 located in Hon Nhan, about 5km southwest of the center of Tho Chau island.
Due to the specific location, sea areas, and islands, illegal goods transportation, fishing vessels using explosives, electric shock to exploit seafood, and violating IUU regulations still occur.
In recent years, the unit's officers and soldiers have proactively coordinated with the authorities and forces on the island to do well in all aspects of work. Focus on monitoring and grasping the situation of the area and sea areas, promoting activities to fight against crime prevention and control.
In 2024 and the first months of 2025 alone, the unit arrested and handled 10 cases, 9 subjects using electric shock devices to exploit aquatic products. The unit coordinated with the Phu Quoc City Police Working Group and Tho Chau Commune Police to arrest a wanted suspect.
Patrolling, detecting and arresting 9 cases, 10 vehicles, 10 journey monitoring devices that did not maintain operations according to regulations, the initial file has been completed and handed over to the Border Guard Command of Kien Giang province to issue a decision to sanction administrative violations of nearly 400 million VND.
The BP patrol ship 20.19.01 of the station in coordination with the An Thoi Port Border Guard Station discovered and arrested 5 cases and 6 vehicles illegally transporting DO oil without invoices and documents, and seized 185,000 liters of DO oil. Participated in rescuing 1 ship sinking, without causing any human casualties; Timely rescued 1 case, safely rescued 4 fishermen who fell into the sea and participated in extinguishing 1 fire.

Proactively coordinate with forces to fight and suppress all types of crimes; together with organizations that do a good job of propaganda and mobilization, build a safe island commune without social evils".
In addition, with the position and special significance of Hon Nhan, in 2021, the Command of Tho Chau Border Guard Station reported to the Head of the Provincial Border Guard Command to implement the " Hon Nhan Green roof" model. Currently, the unit has planted trees on about 2/3 of the Northeast slope, with more than 300 trees of all kinds.
Lieutenant Colonel Danh Hieu, Political Commissar of Tho Chau Border Guard Station, said: Despite the geographical location and sea conditions, traveling, bringing trees and fresh water to plant, water, and take care of trees on Hon Nhan is extremely difficult, arduous, and takes a lot of effort and time for the officers and soldiers of the unit to be determined to do.

Currently, the unit is continuing to implement the model of "Tho Chau island commune without plastic waste", "Fishermen collect garbage to shore, keeping the ocean green". Once a week, the unit sends a working group to coordinate with local youth unions, forces, unions, and students from schools to collect coastal waste along residential routes. In addition, the unit also focuses on disseminating environmental protection, combating plastic waste, combating epidemics... to all people on the island, Lieutenant Colonel Danh Hieu added.
