Joy in new houses after severe floods
In 2025, Nghe An will be directly affected by 18 tornadoes, storms No. 3, 5, 6, 10 and a tropical depression in mid-August. Natural disasters have killed 12 people, injured 31, and damaged 106,307 houses, of which over 70% were completely damaged. The total damage caused by natural disasters in Nghe An is estimated at about VND 8,980 billion.
After natural disasters, the entire political system of localities, with the cooperation of benefactors and sponsors, has urgently taken action to help people overcome the consequences, in which the issue of housing for people is given top priority.

At the end of 2025, we returned to some mountainous communes in the West of Nghe An, witnessing a positive change in the lives of people here after the terrible storms and floods.
Mr. Xeo Van Tuyet, a resident of Ta Do village (Muong Tap commune), said he was very happy and moved to move into a newly supported house with a warm sleeping space and a roof to cover the rain and sun. Previously, at the end of July 2025, after storm No. 3 made landfall, in just a moment, floodwaters swept away his entire family's house, forcing the whole family to temporarily live in a small hut for many consecutive weeks.
Mr. Vi Van Son, Chairman of Muong Tap Commune People's Committee, said that the fierce flood caused damage to 68 households' houses and property, of which 11 houses were completely swept away, 2 houses were severely damaged and could not be used. Up to now, 10 prefabricated houses supported by the Ministry of Public Security have been completed and handed over, and people have moved in.

In parallel with building houses for each household, Nghe An province has surveyed and implemented 2 resettlement projects in Muong tip commune. Specifically, the Ta Do resettlement area is allocated to 27 households with 120 people, with a total investment of about 19.5 billion VND; the Xop Tap resettlement area is expected to be allocated to 18 households in Xop tip and Xop Phong villages, with an investment of nearly 20 billion VND, to help people settle down long-term, limiting the recurrence of natural disaster risks.
Mr. Le Van Luong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tuong Duong commune, said that due to the impact of the storm, the whole commune had 2,210 households affected and had to be urgently evacuated, of which 1,738 households were flooded. Natural disasters have caused housing damage to 1,238 households, including 106 households affected by over 50%, 673 households affected by 3050% and 459 households affected by less than 30%.
To overcome the consequences, the locality has rebuilt 92 houses and repaired 15 houses; of which 30 houses have been assembled, 14 houses have been completed and handed over, and is currently continuing to hand over the site to deploy the remaining 16 houses. In addition, 44 households are arranged interspersed according to Resolution No. 09 of the Provincial People's Council, the plan has been appraised and submitted to the province for approval of financial support; of which 13 households have houses and are under construction, 31 households have land to arrange for house construction when there is a decision for approval.
In addition, 26 houses were supported to repair on the spot from benefactors. "Currently, the locality is also surveying and asking for the province's policy to arrange concentrated resettlement for the remaining 7 households, striving to complete before Tet," said Mr. Le Van Luong.
Racing against time to build houses for people

Mr. Nguyen Anh Doai, Secretary of the My Ly Commune Party Committee, said that the whole commune had 419 houses damaged by natural disasters, of which 220 houses were completely collapsed and washed away. To date, through the support campaign of the Ministry of Public Security, 26 houses have been built and handed over to the people. Other households are still having to set up temporary tents to live in while waiting to build new houses.
Nhon Mai commune is also one of the areas that suffered the most damage due to the historic flash flood that occurred at the end of July 2025. Mr. Mac Van Nguyen, Secretary of the Nhon Mai Commune Party Committee, said that the whole commune had 73 houses that were completely buried and washed away; nearly 40 houses had to be demolished due to severe damage; about 300 other households were in areas at high risk of landslides.

Since October 31, the People's Committee of Nhon Mai commune has held a groundbreaking ceremony and started construction of houses for 30 households in Huoi To 2, Na Hang, and Na Loi villages - households whose houses collapsed or were completely washed away during the recent flood. The State, organizations and individuals have supported the reconstruction of 30 houses for people, with a support level of 3550 million VND/household for foundation construction. The commune has mobilized all militia, police, youth union members and villagers to coordinate in setting up frames, transporting materials, assembling, and providing technical support, in order to help households soon have new, solid and safe houses.
Nhon Mai commune is determined that by the Lunar New Year 2026, all households whose houses were swept away by flood will have stable new housing.
According to the leader of the Nghe An Department of Agriculture and Environment, up to now, 21 resettlement areas have been identified in 15 communes, meeting the stable housing needs of more than 1,000 households. Currently, Nghe An Department of Finance is advising on funding allocation, prioritizing the implementation of urgent resettlement areas.
The early completion of houses and resettlement areas not only helps people "set up" but is also an important foundation to restore livelihoods and rebuild sustainable life for the people of the mountainous areas in the West of Nghe An.
