This is one of the 10 outstanding activities within the framework of the festival with the theme "Ngoc Linh Ginseng - World Herbal Essence" (to be held from August 1 to 3 at APEC Park and ginseng and herbal growing areas in Da Nang city).
Chong Than Sam is a traditional religious ritual associated with Ngoc Linh ginseng, aimed at expressing gratitude to the gods, praying for a favorable ginseng season and continuing to preserve local knowledge about precious medicinal herbs.
The worship ceremony is one of the typical activities of Folk Knowledge about Ngoc Linh Ginseng, which was included in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism according to Decision No. 1355/QD-BVHTTDL dated May 14, 2025.
According to the tradition of the Xo Dang people, the worship ceremony of the Ginseng God is held at the Temple of the Ginseng God with rituals such as procession of the Ginseng God, erecting the Neu tree, divination of the chicken tongue, offering wine and prayer. Offerings include Ngoc Linh ginseng plant, boiled chicken, betel and areca, rice wine and many traditional items. In the sound of gongs, the village elder recites prayers to thank the gods, praying for favorable weather, good ginseng plant growth, and people having a prosperous life.
Not only carrying spiritual meaning, the ritual also contributes to teaching the younger generation folk knowledge about discovering, preserving, growing and caring for Ngoc Linh ginseng - a endemic medicinal herb considered a "national treasure" of Vietnam.
On this occasion, Tra Linh Commune People's Committee organized the second Ngoc Linh ginseng seedling donation program for households in difficult circumstances who need to develop their economy from ginseng. The program responds to the Da Nang International Ginseng and Medicinal Materials Festival 2026, and at the same time calls on businesses and ginseng growing households to join hands to support seedlings.
To date, the program has received about 10,000 Ngoc Linh ginseng seedlings from organizations, businesses and ginseng growers. Each donated seedling not only contributes to preserving the precious gene source but also opens up more livelihoods, creating motivation for people in mountainous areas to develop a sustainable economy from the "green gold" of Ngoc Linh mountain.
