Vietnamese Buddhist leaders visit elderly Venerable Thich Giac Tuong

Elder Venerable Thich Thien Nhon led the delegation of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha to pay respects and commemorate the merits of elder Venerable Thich Giac Tuong.

On May 6, at Minh Dang Quang Dharma Institute (HCMC), venerable dignitaries of the Patronage Council and the Executive Council solemnly held the Funeral Ceremony for elder Venerable Thich Giac Tuong - Member of the Standing Committee of the Patronage and Patronage Council of the Khat Si Sect, new member.

The Central Committee of the Church delegation was led by elder Venerable Thich Thien Nhon - Vice Chairman of the Patronage Council, Chairman of the Executive Council. Accompanying the delegation were elder Venerable Thich Giac Gioi - Deputy Secretary of the Patronage Council; elder Venerable Thich Thien Phap - Standing Member of the Patronage Council, Standing Vice Chairman of the Executive Council; along with elders of the Patronage Council, venerable dignitaries, Vice Chairmen of the Executive Council, Office 2 of the Central Government and representatives of central departments and institutes.

At the funeral, the elder Venerable Chairman, on behalf of the Central Church, signed the mourning book, saved a few lines of remembrance, expressed boundless regret and deep gratitude for the merits of the late elder Venerable Thich Giac Tuong; at the same time, shared condolences with the Khat Si Sect and all Dharma disciples before the death of the respected Venerable Master.

The passing of the eldest Venerable is a great loss for the Church and the Khattisi Sect. However, his virtue and morality will forever be a lamp of true Dharma illuminating the way for later generations to learn, continuing the aspiration to "Transform the Dharma of Shakyamuni", serving human life and benefiting all sentient beings.

According to the obituary, due to his elderly age, Most Venerable Thich Giac Tuong passed away, and retired at 8:25 PM on May 4, 2026 (March 18, Binh Ngo year) at Minh Dang Quang Dharma Institute. Resistance: 97 years, Lower rank: 68 years.

During his lifetime, the eldest Venerable was a high-ranking dignitary of the Vietnamese Khattisi Sect, who throughout his life practiced karmic virtue according to the motto "Continuing the Dharma of Shakyamuni" of the Patriarch, upholding the aspiration of being a beggar virtue, minimizing debauchery and thriving, and promoting wealth. With a solemn etiquette, a life of poverty but purity, he is a tong lam thach tru, a model for later monks and nuns to follow.

In the role of Certificating Master of the Khattisi Sect, the eldest Venerable has wholeheartedly guided monks and nuns to practice, preserve and promote the Khattisi tradition in the hearts of Vietnamese Buddhism. He has made many important contributions to educating talented monks, propagating the Dharma and benefiting people, building a temple base, contributing to consolidating the solidarity of monks and nuns of the sect, and solemnizing the Sangha.

To show gratitude for His great merits, the Memorial Ceremony was solemnly held by the Central Church at 7:00 AM on May 8, 2026 (March 22, Binh Ngo year); then the golden mandarin was worshiped and held a tea-being ceremony at Phuoc Lac Vien crematorium (former Binh Duong province).
