In the first 6 months of 2026, Steering Committee 389 of Lao Cai province, together with departments, branches, and functional forces, synchronously implemented many solutions to combat smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, contributing to stabilizing the market, protecting consumer rights and the business environment, and at the same time continuing to tighten control of violations in the digital environment, according to the Lao Cai e-Portal.
According to the Steering Committee 389 of Lao Cai province, in the first 6 months of the year, entry and exit activities through Lao Cai international border gates reached more than 2.66 million people and vehicles, an increase of 9.91% compared to the same period; import and export turnover is estimated at 1.87 billion USD, an increase of 35%; total retail sales of goods and service revenue reached about 44,500 billion VND, an increase of 13%.
Faced with the complicated developments of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, the Steering Committee 389 of Lao Cai province has consolidated forces, implemented many specialized plans, and strengthened control at border gates, border routes and key areas.
The forces focus on inspecting groups of goods with high risk of violations such as gasoline, food, cosmetics, medicines, agricultural supplies, counterfeit goods, goods infringing intellectual property rights and business activities in the digital environment.
As a result, in the first 6 months of 2026, the whole province detected and handled 1,221 violations, an increase of 26.53% compared to the same period in 2025, including 367 cases of trading and transporting banned goods and smuggled goods; 692 cases of trade fraud and tax fraud; 162 cases of counterfeit goods, imitation goods, and infringement of intellectual property rights.
The forces have initiated and criminally handled 231 cases with 406 subjects; administratively handled 957 cases. The total amount of money collected and paid to the budget reached more than 18.72 billion VND, an increase of 39.39%; the total value of handling is more than 23.51 billion VND.
The Police force discovered and handled 305 cases with 482 subjects; Customs handled 245 cases, collecting nearly 1.5 billion VND; Market Management inspected 490 cases, handled 456 cases with a total value of more than 8.68 billion VND; the Tax sector handled 124 organizations and individuals, recovered and fined over 11.28 billion VND.
In the last 6 months of 2026, the Provincial Steering Committee 389 continues to strengthen control at border lines, border gates and key traffic routes; promote the fight against smuggling through e-commerce, apply digital transformation in management, data sharing and improve the efficiency of coordination between forces to maintain market stability.
