According to the Lao Cai Provincial e-Portal, the campaign of periodic health check-ups and free screening for people in Lao Cai province is being implemented simultaneously in June 2026 according to the policy of the Central Government and the plan of the Provincial People's Committee.
Initial results exceeded the set target, creating a foundation towards the goal that by 2030 all people will have periodic health check-ups at least once a year and be managed by electronic health records.
According to the Lao Cai Provincial Department of Health, by the end of June 30, 2026, the whole province had conducted periodic health check-ups and free screening for 921,292/1,747,475 people, reaching 52.72% of the population. Of which, 370,898 people were conducted periodic health check-ups, equivalent to 21.22% of the population, exceeding the target of completing 50% of subjects in the second quarter of 2026, according to the direction of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee and the Provincial People's Committee.
To deploy the campaign, the Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee issued many plans and directing documents; the Department of Health developed plans and guided medical facilities to prepare human resources, equipment, organize mobile examination points and promote propaganda.
Localities arrange examination points in communes and wards, strengthen mobile examinations, update results daily on the online reporting system, helping specialized agencies monitor progress and promptly support slow-deploying areas.
Some communes achieved high examination rates in the first month such as Muong Hum (84.54%), A Mu Sung (74.17%), Y Ty (70.60%), Cao Son (70.10%) and Bao Thang (62.88%). Meanwhile, Chan Thinh achieved 12.11%, Trung Tam 21.04%, Van Chan 21.11%, Nghia Lo 23.24% and Lien Son 23.41%. The difference between the highest and lowest localities is more than 72 percentage points, showing the effectiveness of propaganda, mobilization and organization of examination points in accordance with reality.
The fact that more than 921,000 people have been examined contributes to early detection of risk factors and pathologies, raising awareness of proactive health care and creating initial data to create electronic health records. This result also supports the digital transformation process of the health sector, interlinking data with the Electronic Health Record on the VNeID application.
Besides the achieved results, the campaign still faced difficulties due to the lack of specialist doctors, paraclinical personnel, and unsynchronized equipment, especially X-ray machines. Some units still have limitations in information technology infrastructure, affecting the updating, data interconnection and result synthesis.
In the coming time, localities will continue to review people who have not participated in medical examinations, strengthen communication, expand mobile medical examinations in remote and isolated areas, mobilize more human resources, complete information technology infrastructure and accelerate data interconnection to expand the coverage of periodic health check-ups according to the target by 2030.
