On July 3, information from Lao Cai Provincial Police said that on the afternoon of July 2, officers and soldiers of Van Ban Commune Police visited, encouraged and presented a support amount of 5 million VND to Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien (90 years old, residing in Na Trang village, Van Ban commune) and those who are directly taking care of her.
According to research, Ms. Lien has been paralyzed for many years and no longer has the ability to take care of herself. She lives alone in a small house, and all daily activities depend on the help of those around her.
Allowances for people with severe disabilities and the elderly are the almost only source of income to maintain life.
Not only facing illness and old age, Ms. Lien also suffered prolonged pain for many years due to family upheavals.
Her son had repeatedly violated the law, with 3 previous convictions with a total serving time of up to 23 years in prison. In September 2016, this person continued to be arrested for the act of illegally transporting 10 bricks of heroin and then died during his detention. Since then, Ms. Lien has lived in loneliness and deprivation when she has no relatives to take care of her.
Grasping her special circumstances, Van Ban Commune Police promptly organized visits, encouraged and provided support to share some of the immediate difficulties, and at the same time give more motivation to those who are directly caring for her.
Although the material value is not large, the gift shows the spirit of responsibility, sharing and affection of the grassroots police force towards people in difficult circumstances.
This is also a practical activity in response to the "Three Firsts" emulation movement, contributing to building the image of police officers who are close to the people, dedicated, humane and always accompany the people.
From Ms. Lien's story, functional forces also emphasize the serious consequences caused by drugs. Not only destroying the lives of criminals, drugs also leave losses, pain and persistent burdens for families, relatives and society.
