On December 7, according to information from the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Nghe An province, by the end of 2025, more than 15,000 households in mountainous areas with difficulty in clean water will be supported with domestic water, thanks to large capital from the central government and the provincial budget, according to the National Target Program (NTP) 1719.
One of the first localities to benefit from the program is Na Loi commune, the most difficult western border commune in the province. Here, more than 370 households have been installed with water tanks and water piping systems, helping to reduce the burden of taking water. Mr. Luong Van Thuy, a resident of Huoi Kho village, happily shared: "Now, my family has clean water right at home, no longer have to climb mountains to carry water like before".

The National Target Program 1719 has been strongly implemented in Nghe An mountainous districts. In the 2021-2025 period, more than 105 billion VND has been allocated to 46 centralized domestic water projects in 10 mountainous districts. To date, 33 projects have been completed, providing clean water to tens of thousands of households.
Ms. Luong Thi Loi (residing in Na Bon village, Yen Na commune) shared: "Previously, we had to bring boxes down to the stream to get water, which took the whole morning. Now that the water flows to the kitchen, the family has time to take care of the fields, and the children have less hardship."
According to the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Nghe An province, the National Target Program 1719 not only helps improve the quality of domestic water but also creates opportunities for people in the highlands to improve their material and spiritual life.
Thanks to the support of clean water projects, the poverty rate of ethnic minority households in Nghe An has decreased by more than 3% per year, to just over 17%. Average income per capita in the region is currently at 38.4 million VND/year, marking a big step forward in sustainable poverty reduction and economic development in mountainous areas.
Clean water projects are not only a "dedication" solution for the people, but also an important foundation to help stabilize life, improve public health, and contribute to the implementation of sustainable development goals in the mountainous areas of Nghe An.
