Hung Nguyen district has 6 commune-level administrative units subject to rearrangement in the period of 2023 - 2025, because they have not met 70% of both standards on natural area and population size, with standards on natural area below 20% and population size below 300% of regulations; including: Hung Tan, Hung Thong, Hung My, Hung Thinh, Hung Phuc and Hung Loi.
According to the plan, Hung Tan commune will merge into Hung Thong commune to form the new commune Thong Tan.
Thong Tan commune is expected to have an area of 10.39 km2 and a population of 10,068 people, the government headquarters will be located in Hung Thong commune (old).
Up to now, the merger has been consulted by the people and approved by the People's Council of Hung Nguyen district, reported to the People's Committee of Nghe An province and submitted to the Standing Committee of the National Assembly.
Notably, Hung Tan is one of 16 communes recognized as meeting the model new rural standards of Nghe An province, considered a “livable countryside” of the province. Meanwhile, Hung Thong has only recently met the advanced new rural standards.
The merger of Hung Thong and Hung Tan to form a new commune means that there is no longer a model new rural commune that the government and people had to strive so hard to achieve.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Van Tam - Chairman of Hung Thong Commune People's Committee shared: "Hung Tan Commune is one of the first commune-level units in Nghe An province to meet the model new rural standards, with many outstanding criteria, recognized and highly appreciated, and visited and learned by many localities inside and outside the province. Now, merging into Hung Thong to establish a new commune, half of the new commune is a model new rural area".
Vice Chairman of Hung Nguyen District People's Committee Nguyen Huu Ha said that up to now, the roadmap for establishing the new commune Thong Tan on the basis of merging Hung Thong and Hung Tan has been completed, just waiting for the National Assembly Standing Committee to approve.
“Hung Tan commune is a model new rural commune, Hung Thong is an advanced new rural commune. Now that the two communes have merged, to maintain the title of model new rural commune, we must strive to make Thong Tan commune a model new rural commune,” said Mr. Nguyen Huu Ha.
Reporters discussed that becoming a model new rural commune is not easy. Vice Chairman of Hung Nguyen District People's Committee discussed that with determination and consensus from the political system and the entire population, we will strive to achieve the set goals.
"The important thing is that after the merger, the political system is stable and people's lives are improved," said Mr. Nguyen Huu Ha.
