New low pressure systems continuously form, forecasting the possibility of landfall in Vietnam

It is forecast that 4 low pressure and tropical depressions are likely to form on and near the East Sea area in the next 2 weeks.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned that a new low pressure area is likely to form in the East Sea and near the East Sea in the period from September 7-20, 2026.

In the week from September 7-9, PAGASA monitored two low pressure areas that are likely to develop into tropical depressions. The first low pressure area is located in the East of the Philippines, near the eastern edge of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). This low pressure area is unlikely to develop into a tropical depression during the forecast period.

Meanwhile, the 2nd low pressure area is located in the western Philippines, over the East Sea area. In the week from September 14-20, the low pressure area is highly likely to strengthen into a tropical depression or storm, entering the mainland in the coastal areas of the Northern and Central regions.

In the week of September 14-20, another low pressure area is likely to form in the East of the Philippines, the eastern edge area of PAR (Filippian Area of Responsibility). This low pressure area is unlikely to develop into a tropical depression during the forecast period.

Also this week, a low pressure area appeared further east of the Philippines. This low pressure area is also unlikely to strengthen into a tropical depression.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in September 2026, storms/tropical depressions operating in the East Sea and making landfall in Vietnam are likely to be equivalent to the multi-year average (about 2.4 storms/tropical depressions in the East Sea, of which 1.2 make landfall in Vietnam).

The heat in the Central region is tending to gradually decrease, especially in the South Central Coast region, there is still a possibility of some widespread heat waves.

During the forecast period, widespread heavy rain will mainly concentrate in the Northern region and provinces from Thanh Hoa-Da Nang. In the Central Highlands and Southern regions, there will be many days of showers and thunderstorms, with days of moderate to heavy rain; the rain time will be concentrated in the afternoon and night.

People and tourists should pay attention to weather developments. Follow local instructions and avoid going to sea when the sea is rough throughout the rainy and storm season.
