According to storm news, the latest low pressure from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), Typhoon Chan-hom is about to make landfall in Japan.
As of the afternoon of August 11, the storm center was located 246 km northeast of Yokosuka (Japan). The strongest wind near the storm center reached 75 km/h. The maximum wave height reached 7.6m.
In the past 6 hours, the typhoon has moved in a West-Southwest direction at a speed of 24 km/h. It is forecast that the typhoon will continue to move in a West-Southwest direction, entering the mainland area of Tokyo (Japan) today, August 11.
Due to the impact of the storm, experts warn that heavy rain could fall on eastern and northeastern Japan.
As of tomorrow morning, August 12, the Tohoku area is forecast to have rainfall of up to 180 mm, the Kanto-Koshin area 150 mm and the Izu Islands in the Pacific have rainfall of 100 mm. Rainfall in the next 24 hours as of the morning of August 13 may reach 150 mm in the Tokai area and 120 mm in Tohoku and Kanto-Koshin.
The storm also brought strong winds with maximum speeds of 90 km/h on August 12 in Tohoku and Kanto-Koshin, 64.8 km/h in Niigata Prefecture and 61.2 km/h in Tokai. The expected maximum gust speed is in the range of 108 to 126 km/h.
Large waves off the Pacific coast can reach up to 7m high in Tohuku and Kanto.
Heavy rain may cause landslides and floods in low-lying areas. After entering mainland Japan, the typhoon will begin to gradually weaken into a tropical depression in the afternoon of August 12 before dissipating in the next 3 days.
