Typhoon Jangmi is forecast to move quickly near the East Sea at speeds up to 30 km/h.

According to storm and low pressure news from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Typhoon Jangmi is moving rapidly near the East Sea.

As of 10 am this morning (local time), the storm's center is located at about 12.7 degrees North latitude - 135.8 degrees East longitude, about 1,135 km east of the eastern region of Visayas. The storm is moving quickly in the Northwest direction at a speed of 30 km/h.

The strongest wind near the storm center reached 65 km/h, gusting up to 80 km/h. Strong winds extended outside the storm center up to 380 km.

Typhoon Jangmi is forecast to continue moving northwest and enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tonight or early morning of May 29. When entering PAR, the typhoon will be named Domeng locally.

In the following days, Typhoon Jangmi will mainly move in a Northwest-north direction over the Philippine Sea, far from the mainland Philippines before leaving PAR on June 1.

The meteorological agency predicts that Typhoon Jangmi will continue to strengthen and is likely to reach the level of a severe tropical storm on May 30. The strongest intensity may appear between May 30 and 31 when operating in the Philippine Sea, after which the storm is forecast to gradually weaken.

PAGASA forecasts that the storm is unlikely to make landfall in the Philippines. Due to the latest trajectory tending to deviate to the East, the risk of strong wind signals from the storm in the northernmost part of Luzon is also reduced, although it cannot be completely ruled out.

This weekend, the coastal area of the northernmost part of Luzon may experience rough seas with strong winds. In addition, the circulation of Typhoon Jangmi is forecast to increase the southwest monsoon starting from May 30.

In the East Sea, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on the day and night of May 28, the sea area south of the Central East Sea, the South East Sea area (including Truong Sa special zone), the sea area from Khanh Hoa to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to An Giang and the Gulf of Thailand will have scattered showers and thunderstorms. In thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, strong gusts of wind at level 6-7 and sea waves over 2.0m high.

People and tourists closely monitor weather forecasts, limit travel to areas at risk of flooding, landslides or coastal areas with strong waves.

Ships operating at sea need to be cautious in the face of bad weather conditions and storms that may occur unexpectedly.
