According to the latest weather forecast bulletin from the Philippine Meteorological Agency (Pagasa), Typhoon Nuri is operating outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and continues to be monitored as it may cause rain in some areas in the east of the Philippines.
Pagasa forecasts that Typhoon Nuri is unlikely to enter the East Sea and is expected to continue moving further away from the Philippines. However, the typhoon's circulation may still affect the weather in eastern Mindanao.
Due to the impact of Typhoon Nuri's circulation, the Surigao del Sur and Davao Oriental areas are forecast to be cloudy, with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao, along with Eastern Samar, Leyte and Southern Leyte, may experience showers or localized thunderstorms.
While Typhoon Nuri has little direct impact on the Philippines, this system is likely to affect Guam and the Mariana Islands in the next few days.
According to the meteorological agency in Guam, Typhoon Nuri may cause heavy rain and strong gusts of wind in Guam until the end of March 14.
It is forecast that the storm will change direction to the northeast and pass through the Northern Mariana Islands area, possibly near or north of Anatahan Island.
Tropical storm warnings are applied in the Yap Proper and Ulithi areas, where strong winds of 63 km/h or more are likely to appear. Meanwhile, Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan have not issued storm warnings.
However, experts forecast rain from 50-100 mm, locally higher, possibly from 12-14.3, accompanied by gusts of about 55 km/h.
The meteorological agency also warned that prolonged heavy rain could cause localized flooding and flash floods, especially as the area has just experienced one of the wettest early March months in many years in Guam.
Storm Nuri is forecast to strengthen slightly, reaching about 65 km/h - gusts of 80 km/h in the next 24 hours, before entering a weakening phase.
Tourists who are or are preparing to visit Guam, the Mariana Islands or eastern Philippines should regularly update storm and weather forecasts due to the impact of Typhoon Nuri.
Sea tourism, diving, island cruises or water sports may be limited as strong winds and rough seas appear in the next few days.
