According to the latest low pressure forecast from the Philippine Meteorological Agency (Pagasa), tropical storm Nuri has degraded to tropical depression Nuri in the Western Pacific on the morning of March 12.
The new weather forecast bulletin said that the center of the tropical depression Nuri was recorded about 1,365 km east of Eastern Visayas, with maximum sustained winds of about 55 km/h and gusts of up to 70 km/h.
The tropical depression is moving in a northeast direction at a speed of about 10 km/h, changing compared to the previous southwest direction.
Tropical depression Nuri is located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and shows no signs of moving towards the East Sea. However, the prolonged rainbow can still affect the weather in some places.
The meteorological agency warns that rain due to the tropical depression could cause flash floods and localized landslides in areas in the Philippines such as Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Davao Oriental.
Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao mainly has showers or localized thunderstorms, while many other areas of the Philippines are affected by cold air with scattered light rain.
Medium to strong winds and moderate to strong rough seas are forecast to appear in Northern Luzon, eastern Luzon, Visayas and eastern Mindanao.
The meteorological agency on Guam recorded that the tropical depression Nuri is gradually weakening as it moves towards the Mariana Islands.
The tropical depression is forecast to move near or north of Anatahan Island (Northern Mariana) on March 13, before dissipating.
Despite weakening, the remaining circulation of Nuri and the low pressure trough can still cause showers and thunderstorms, strong gusts of wind and localized heavy rain in Tinian, Saipan and neighboring islands until the evening of March 13.
The risk of localized flooding and flash floods is still being warned, especially in areas with prolonged heavy rain.
Currently, the tropical depression warning is still maintained for Yap Proper and Ulithi.
Tourists who are or are preparing to visit the Philippines, Guam or the Mariana Islands should closely monitor the weather forecast and developments of the Nuri tropical depression in the next few days.
Island tours, diving, boat trips or sea activities may be affected by thunderstorms and rough seas.
Meanwhile, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting forecasts that on the night of March 12, the Northeast wind in many sea areas will continue to maintain a fairly strong intensity.
On March 13, the Northern East Sea area (including the Hoang Sa special zone) has strong Northeast winds at level 6-7, gusts at level 8-9, strong rough seas, sea waves 3.0-5.0m high.
In the central area of the East Sea, Northeast wind is strong at level 5, sometimes level 6, gusts at level 7-8, rough seas, waves 2.0-4.0m high. The sea area from South Quang Tri to Dak Lak has strong Northeast wind at level 6, gusts at level 7-8, rough seas, waves 2.0-4.0m high, wind gradually decreases from night.
The sea area from Khanh Hoa to Ca Mau and the sea area west of the South East Sea (including the west of the Truong Sa special zone) have strong Northeast winds of level 6, gusts of level 7-8, rough seas, waves 2.0-4.0m high.
With these weather conditions, all ships operating in the above-mentioned areas are at high risk of being affected by strong winds and large waves.
