A low pressure area east of the Philippines is expected to bring rain to some areas of the Bicol region, as well as Visayas and Mindanao, on Friday, May 2, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration ( pagasa).
The 5a low pressure area was last recorded early Friday morning, about 440 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, according to Pagasa weather expert grace Castañeda.
Cloudy weather with scattered showers is forecast in the provinces of Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon and Masbate due to the influence of the depression, Ms. Castañeda added.
Pagasa also forecasts that the low pressure will bring showers to Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao and Caraga regions.
These rains can be moderate to heavy, even very heavy, and can cause flooding and landslides, Castañeda explained in Chinese.
Ms. Castañeda said that this low pressure area has a low chance of developing into a tropical storm in the next 24 hours.
Based on the latest analysis, the low pressure area we are monitoring is likely to approach the Philippine mainland and may move through the Visayas region in the coming days, towards the west of Palawan, she added.
Despite the low pressure, Pagasa still does not issue a warning of strong winds over the Philippine waters.
According to the agency's forecast, the sea conditions across the Philippines will be mild to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.8 meters.
Tourists in the Philippines need to pay special attention to the weather conditions due to the influence of the low pressure area operating in the east of the country. Tourists should limit travel to mountainous areas, coastal areas or areas with low terrain.
In Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, although the weather is mainly hot and humid, there may still be showers or thunderstorms in the late afternoon.
Visitors should bring raincoats, umbrellas and pay attention to safety when traveling outdoors. In addition, even without a warning of rough seas, activities at sea far from the shore should still be carefully considered.
To ensure safety, tourists should regularly update weather information from the meteorological agency and adjust their schedule to suit actual conditions.
