New low pressure area appears in the East Sea, likely to strengthen in 24 hours

A low pressure area in the East Sea is forecast to potentially strengthen into a tropical depression in the next 24-48 hours.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the early morning of September 10, in Phu Quy special zone, there was level 5 southwest wind, sometimes level 6. The Central East Sea area, the sea area north of the Southern East Sea area, including the sea area north of Truong Sa special zone, the sea area from Da Nang City to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to An Giang and the Gulf of Thailand had scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Notably, the intertropical convergence zone has its axis at about 14-17 degrees North latitude, connected to a low pressure area. At 1:00 AM on September 10, the low pressure area was located at about 14.5-15.5 degrees North latitude - 115.5-116.5 degrees East longitude, over the East Sea area.

It is forecasted that in the next 1-2 days, this low pressure area is likely to strengthen into a tropical depression.

During the day and night of September 10, the sea area from Lam Dong to Ho Chi Minh City will have Southwest wind level 5, sometimes level 6, gusts level 7-8, rough seas. Sea waves are 2-3m high, Southwest wave direction.

In the north of the Northern East Sea, Northeast wind is strong at level 5, sometimes level 6, gusts at level 7-8, rough seas. Sea waves are 2-3m high, Northeast wave direction.

By the night of September 10, the Gulf of Tonkin and the north of the Northern East Sea will have level 6 Northeast wind, gusts of level 7-8, rough seas. Sea waves are 2-3m high, especially in the Gulf of Tonkin area, waves are 1.5-2.5m high.

In addition to areas with strong winds, during the day and night of September 10, the Gulf of Tonkin, the sea area from South Quang Tri to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to An Giang and the Gulf of Thailand will have showers and thunderstorms. The sea area south of the Northern East Sea area, including the Hoang Sa special zone, along with the Central and Southern East Sea areas, including the Truong Sa special zone, also will have showers and thunderstorms.

In thunderstorms, ships and boats are likely to encounter tornadoes, strong gusts of wind at level 7-8 and waves over 2m high.

Warning on the day and night of September 11, the Gulf of Tonkin and the northern sea area of the Northern East Sea continue to have strong Northeast winds at level 6, gusts at level 7-8, waves 2-3m high, rough seas.

The sea area from Lam Dong to Ho Chi Minh City has Southwest wind level 5, sometimes level 6, gusts level 7-8; sea waves 2-3m high, rough seas.

The level of natural disaster risk due to strong winds and large waves at sea is determined to be level 2.

The meteorological agency warns that all ships operating in the above areas are at high risk of being affected by strong winds and big waves. People and tourists planning to go to these sea areas need to proactively monitor weather developments, especially in areas with thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind. Avoid going to sea when the sea is rough to ensure safety.
