Choose a safe destination
According to many young people with travel experience alone, choosing a suitable destination plays a decisive role in the safety level of the trip.
For Hoang Thi Xuan Mai (21 years old, Hanoi), who has had many trips alone abroad, she believes that before deciding to go to a certain location, young people need to spend time carefully learning about security, traffic, weather as well as local culture.
I usually prioritize places that have developed tourism, have many positive reviews from the tourist community and a relatively complete service system. Before each trip, I spend quite a lot of time reading travel groups, watching reviews about hotels, transportation and areas to avoid" - Mai shared.

According to Mai, people traveling alone for the first time should choose popular destinations with many tourists instead of places that are too pristine or few people visit. This makes it easier to find support when encountering problems.
In addition, she also advised against scheduling too densely or traveling at night time in unfamiliar areas.
Coming to a new place already has a lot to get used to. If you try to explore too many places in a short time, young people are easily in a state of fatigue, distraction and increased risk of encountering risks" - Mai said.
Take advantage of technology to protect yourself
In the digital age, smartphones are not only a communication tool but also become an important companion to help tourists improve their safety throughout their journey.
According to personal experience, Dao Thi Huyen Trang (22 years old, Hai Phong) said that she always prepares some necessary applications before departure.
Map applications like Google Maps are almost indispensable. In addition, I always turn on the location sharing feature directly with relatives so that they can track my journey if necessary" - Trang shared.
In addition, ride-hailing applications, online room bookings or e-wallets also help limit having to carry too much cash. This contributes to reducing the risk of theft or loss of property.

According to Trang, young people should also keep emergency phone numbers, addresses of functional agencies or embassies (if going abroad) to be able to contact them immediately when encountering problems. Besides careful preparation, the ability to respond to unexpected situations is also an important skill for people who choose to travel alone.
The first principle is to always stay calm. Panic can make the situation more serious and reduce the ability to make accurate decisions. If you feel being followed or unsafe, you should quickly move to crowded places such as convenience stores, restaurants, hotels or the nearest police station to seek support" - Trang shared.
In case of loss of papers or important assets, it is necessary to immediately contact functional agencies and notify relatives. At the same time, electronic copies of personal papers should be stored on your phone or email for use when needed.
Huyen Trang also recommends that young people should limit public sharing of their current location in real time on social networks. Posting images or information about schedules after leaving the location will help protect privacy and avoid unnecessary risks.
