Summer trekking and notes to limit risks

HÂN NGHIÊN |

Behind the attraction of the pristine trekking routes are many risks if participants lack experience and prepare incorrectly.

The 2026 summer tourism season witnessed the explosion of trekking (piek-walking, mountain climbing) among young people. However, from the reality of organizing tours, Vietravel Travel Company noted that most cases of trekking risks come from self-travel, lack of experience or self-destruction.

Meanwhile, when participating in organized groups, especially professional units, the rate of incidents is very low thanks to guides, support teams and clear control procedures.

According to Vietravel, for newcomers, the most important factor is not "how difficult it is to get there", but choosing a suitable form and preparing properly from the beginning.

Regarding the choice of itinerary, beginners should start with short routes, low or medium difficulty, time from 1–2 days, instead of immediately trying out long journeys, complex terrain. Choosing the right level will help reduce physical pressure and limit risks during travel.

In addition, participants need to have certain physical preparation. Trekking requires more endurance than strength. Therefore, before the trip, tourists should practice basic exercises such as hiking, climbing stairs or light exercises to gradually adapt the body to the intensity of continuous movement.

In terms of equipment, essential items should be prioritized. Good grip trekking shoes are a must, along with weather-appropriate clothing (raincoats, light jackets, supporting bats and lightweight backpacks). In addition, drinking water, energy food, flashlights, spare batteries and personal first aid kits are indispensable items.

Another important factor is to prepare information before the journey. Participants need to carefully learn about the route, weather conditions, rest stops and backup plans. In particular, monitoring the weather is a key factor, because natural conditions can change quickly and directly affect safety.

Finally, the important principle in trekking is to move steadily, keep the rhythm stable and always listen to your body. Do not try to go too far or follow other people's speed. Trekking is a journey of endurance and control. In which, safety is always the top priority.
