Located on Thang Long Avenue, Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi; The Vietnam Military History Museum is a particularly typical cultural project, a place to preserve and promote the quintessence of the nation's military cultural heritage.
There is a museum opened in the bomb era
On July 17, 5, 5, the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army issued a Decision to establish the Construction Board of the Military Museum.
After more than 3 years of construction and exhibition, on December 21, 2019, on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army's military training camp, the museum was officially opened and opened to visitors in the middle of the war.
After the opening day, the Construction Board of the Military Museum was changed to the Military Museum Department, then the Military Museum Institute on May 15, 1964 Under the ammunition bombs of the resistance war against the US, tens of thousands of artifacts were evacuated to the Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Ha Tay (old) areas and are still carefully preserved. Some hospital staff sacrificed their lives while on duty to closely follow the soldiers on the battlefields to collect artifacts, such as martyr Duong Quang Chinh.
After the National Reunification Day, the institute expanded its activities across the country and to Laos and Cambodia, contributing to adding many artifacts associated with the wars to protect the Fatherland in the Southwest and North borders.
Entering the renovation period, the institute received Dien Bien Phu Relic Site and merged the Army's Fine Arts Factory and the museum. In July 1994, the institute was recognized as a national museum.
On December 4, 2002, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 1155/QD-TTg to rename the Military Museum into the Vietnam Military History Museum, marking a step of in-depth development in terms of content, functions and position of the museum.
Currently, the Vietnam Military History Museum is ranked in the group of national museums with the largest number of exhibits and visitors. With a system of authentic and valuable original artifacts, the museum has become a prestigious cultural and historical center, attracting a large public, especially those interested in researching Vietnam's military history.
Current Vietnam Military History Museum
The new facility of the museum was opened on November 1, 2024, at Km 6+500 Thang Long Avenue, Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi, on an area of 386,600m2.

The museum has an exhibition system with 6 topics following the historical flow: From the beginning of national construction and defense to the period of National Independence Protection, French Colonial resistance to independence, Resistance against French colonialism, Resistance against American imperialism and National Construction and Protection with modern national defense and security activities.
The museum applies many new display methods along with advanced technologies such as 3D mapping tables; information lookup screens, photo documents, automatic audio guide explanations and QR codes to look up information about artifacts, images and more than 60 video clips introducing the campaign, battles and historical figures.

A special highlight of the Museum is the National Treasures - symbolic artifacts of the resounding feats of the Vietnam People's Army. Including, MiG-21 aircraft with serial number 4324, Air Force regiment 921, Division 371, used to shoot down 14 US aircraft; MiG-21 aircraft with serial number 5121.

Regiment 921, Division 371 used to shoot down 05 US aircraft from March 12-December 1972; T54B tank No. 843 of Company 4, Battalion 1, tank division 203, commanded by Lieutenant, Company Commander Bui Quang Than, defeated the Doc Lap family on April 30, 1975 .
The museum also displays the Map of the "Ho Chi Minh Campaign Determination" that was used to direct the liberation of Saigon - Gia Dinh, July5.

Not stopping there, the Museum also owns a series of typical artifacts, which are weapons and equipment of the Vietnam People's Army: IL-14 aircraft, numbered VN-C482; Su-22 aircraft, numbered 5832; MiG-17 aircraft, numbered 2047; ZSU-57 self-propelled air defense artillery, numbered 025; T-34 tank, numbered 250; 130mm long-range artillery M-46.
Weapons and means of war used by the enemy in the Vietnam war: C-130 aircraft; F-5E aircraft; A-37B Batter; M-577 A1 armored vehicle; M-48 tank, 175mm self-propelled artillery; CH-47 Chinook aircraft.
After 69 years of construction and development, the Vietnam Military History Museum is not only a place to preserve the past, but also a historical bridge with the present, thereby moving towards a future that continues the spirit of Vietnam.
The museum is open from 8am to 4:30pm on weekdays (except Monday and Friday). The entrance fee is 40,000 VND/adult. Ticket price is 20,000 VND/trip for students and pupils aged 16 and over with cards issued by educational institutions; people with severe disabilities; Vietnamese elderly people aged 60 and over with elderly card or valid documents.
Free tickets for people under 16 years old, the elderly aged 80 and over, war invalids, people with revolutionary contributions, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, Heroes of Labor.
