With a passion for travel and freedom of discovery, Ms. Kieu Trinh had a memorable solo trip through 27 provinces and cities in 10 days.

Female backpacker loves freedom, travels 3,000km

Traveling to many lands, enjoying the scenery as well as accumulating new experiences is what any free spirit desires. However, not everyone has the time, conditions and dare to do this, especially female backpackers.

At the end of June 2024, Kieu Trinh (24 years old, freelancer in An Giang) made one of the most memorable decisions of her life: traveling alone through 27 provinces and cities in 10 days, covering more than 3,000km by scooter.

Kieu Trinh said: “I didn’t go for any specific reason, I just wanted to explore new routes during that time. Although late June and early July are not the best times to travel due to frequent rains, floods, and hot weather, I think every time has its own charm.”

According to her, this is not a very cold season in the northern mountainous provinces. Moreover, at this time the rice has not yet ripened, so you can see the cool green terraced fields.

The female backpacker also admitted that she is a person who loves freedom and does not want to be constrained by any framework, so she hardly follows any specific schedule.

This girl's destinations are all spontaneous, she goes wherever she wants and then finds a place to rest. "I don't spend too much time preparing for a trip, because for me everything should be experienced, I also don't want to be constrained by a certain framework like today, I have to stay somewhere and go somewhere", she expressed.

Ms. Trinh confirmed that the destinations on the 10-day trip were not planned in advance. Photo:

Among 27 provinces and cities such as Nha Trang, Phu Yen, Quang Nam, Hue... the place that left the deepest impression on Kieu Trinh was Ha Giang.

“Ha Giang people are very friendly, I can ask for support from anywhere and anyone. Ha Giang has many beautiful places and I regret that I don't have enough time to visit them all. The day I went, due to the impact of floods, the Nho Que River was not clear. In Ha Giang, I like to visit ancient villages, long-standing villages of the indigenous people to enjoy the simplicity and closeness", the female tourist said.

Talking about her choice to travel alone, she affirmed that the trip was not as lonely as people often think. On the contrary, because she traveled alone, she could comfortably take control and decide everything from the smallest to the biggest things such as where to eat, when to stop, how far to go... Accordingly, this is the private pleasure of souls who love freedom, not loneliness.

The female backpacker also said that this was not the first time she chose to travel alone. Most of her trips were quite spontaneous, not dependent on anyone, nor worried or thinking too much.

“We never know what lies ahead, which is exciting,” she said.

Many times encountered problems and memories of running through the night from Ha Giang to Hanoi

Kieu Trinh shared that she pays a lot of attention to preparing basic necessary items because they will serve her throughout the trip, including thin clothes, warm clothes, personal hygiene items and a few basic items for vehicle repair.

The technology accompanying the female tourist is a camcorder, tripod, camera... most importantly, a charging cable as well as a spare charger. The young girl does not forget to bring a medical bag with basic first aid medicines and bandages.

Talking about the budget for the trip, Kieu Trinh said she did not set a certain spending limit because "sometimes the trip does not come twice".

However, she always spends within her financial means, about 2 million VND/day, and always has a savings account to prepare for risks and spontaneous moments.

“I travel with a mindset of keeping everything simple and just enough, almost like the Swedish “lagom” style,” the 27-year-old girl confided.

During the 10-day journey, Kieu Trinh encountered many “half-laughing, half-crying” incidents such as running over a nail 3 times in one day, having her door knocked on in the middle of the night for no reason, having to frequently change oil, patch tires and check brakes. Among them, the most memorable memory was the time she drove all night from Ha Giang to Hanoi.

“That day it was raining heavily, I was riding a SH without auxiliary lights. At night the road was deserted, I could only follow the big car to get the lights. I arrived at Giap Bat station, Hanoi at 1am, perhaps that was the most memorable night of the whole trip”, Kieu Trinh recalled.

She affirmed that if you want to travel alone, you must be fully equipped with first aid skills, basic and necessary items to use throughout the trip as well as water and snacks in case you go into deserted areas.

In addition, tourists should limit going out at night as much as possible, always pay attention to safety and save the phone number of the police in the area they are passing through in case of danger.

Writing down emergency contact information in your wallet or hanging it on your backpack, and always updating your schedule with friends and relatives is also something you should do to ensure your own safety.
