Many European or American tourists perceive Vietnam as a hot destination all year round. Therefore, when Hanoi welcomes an intensified cold air wave from today, January 31, the temperature drops to 13-15 degrees Celsius, many people are surprised by the winter weather of the Capital - colder than imagined but quite pleasant compared to European winter.
Gry Meng and Rahn Nielsen, two female tourists from Denmark, were surprised by the winter weather in Northern Vietnam after a few days of setting foot in Hanoi.
Before the trip, both said they really didn't think Vietnam would have winter. Initially, when packing luggage, the two female tourists mainly brought summer clothes.
However, experiencing the weather in the North for the first time, both tourists had to buy extra jackets and trousers. Gry Meng shared that in Denmark or many European countries, many people still think that Vietnam or Southeast Asian countries always have a hot and humid climate all year round.
Although the weather is colder than imagined, Hanoi's weather is quite pleasant compared to European winter.
It's sunny during the day, so it's quite warm, however, it's much colder at night. But compared to Denmark, winter in Vietnam is much "lighter".
In my country, winter temperatures are very low and there is often snow. So traveling to Vietnam in such warm weather is quite comfortable for us tourists when visiting and experiencing," Gry expressed.
As for two tourists from Italy - Chiara Monfardini and Pietro Bianchi, Vietnam's weather is cool and pleasant like European autumn.
Pietro shared that he had been to Vietnam at the same time last year, he commented that the weather this year was significantly cooler than the previous experience. According to him, the temperature in Hanoi is currently ideal for traveling, neither too hot nor too cold.
Winter in Vietnam is like spring in Italy. Temperatures can drop to about 0-10 degrees Celsius. Therefore, I really love this weather in Hanoi, beautiful sunshine and mild climate for an experience," Pietro said.
If the weather turns colder, the two tourists will consider buying a few more jackets to conveniently go out in the following days of stay.
The weather in Hanoi in the next few days may get cold, cloudy, with drizzle and fog near dawn, and cold at night and early morning. Compared to the harsh winter in many European countries, the cold in Hanoi is only enough for tourists to put on a thin coat when going out. Although the weather is colder than many international tourists imagine, the first months of the year are still considered a favorable time to visit and explore relics and cultural spaces of the Capital.
