Recently, Chinese social networks were abuzz with videos of a group of "barbarians" at a tourist area at Benxi Guanshan Lake in Liaoning province, China.
In the clip, 6-7 staff members dress like primitive people, holding wooden bows and arrows, moving and making strange sounds to interact with visitors. Many tourists seemed excited, while some ran away in panic.
Information spread online says that these "barbarians" can earn 200 yuan (nearly 700,000 VND) per day and are even allowed to "steal" tourists' food.

However, the resort's representative quickly issued a correction.
According to Meihua Media , an employee of the Benxi Guanshan Lake Tourist Area confirmed they are recruiting about 20 actors to play "savages". Working hours are from April to October, from 10:00 to 15:00 daily.
The main job is to dress up as primitive people and interact with visitors. The monthly salary is 5,000 yuan (about 17 million VND), including lunch. This employee also denied rumors about these people "stealing" tourists' food.
Notably, the job receives special attention from young people looking for work.
From the resort's job posting, hundreds of candidates applied for this position. Many people expressed their interest on social networks:
“I haven't washed my hair for three days, maybe I can play this role naturally,” one netizen humorously commented.
"Great! Paid to 'go crazy,'" another wrote.
“Oh my god, this job is so suitable for me. I'm willing to work for half the salary," another comment attracted a lot of attention.

However, the incident also sparked controversy about the appropriateness of this tourism activity. Some say it is entertaining and attracts tourists, while others worry it could create an inaccurate image of history and culture.
Although there are still many mixed opinions, it cannot be denied that the unique initiative of Benxi Guanshan Lake Tourist Area has succeeded in attracting public attention. Time will tell whether this model can maintain its long-term appeal and spread to other tourist destinations.
