Binh Dan Commune, Van Don District is home to more than 1,300 San Diu ethnic people, accounting for 86% of the commune's population.
This is a land that preserves many unique traditional cultural features, from cuisine, costumes, Soong Co singing art, Dai Phan festival and wedding ceremonies, ancestor worship of the San Diu people.
In order to preserve and promote cultural beauty, the San Diu Ethnic Cultural - Tourism Village in Voong Tre village has been invested in construction and put into operation since December 8, 2024.
This is part of Plan No. 161/KH-UBND dated June 21, 2023 of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province on "Piloting the construction, preservation and promotion of cultural identity values of 4 ethnic minority villages associated with community tourism development in mountainous areas of Quang Ninh province in the period of 2023-2025".
The highlight of the cultural village is the area displaying traditional costumes, wedding rituals, festivals, beliefs and typical handicrafts of the San Diu people.
Special ceremonies such as weddings, Dai Phan ceremonies with knife climbing rituals, and Hanh Quang dances are all vividly recreated through a system of 1.1 scale statues, sound, light, and modern touch screens.
In addition, the traditional kitchen space, working tools and village landscape also help visitors deeply feel the cultural life of the San Diu people through every detail.
Ms. Tu Thi Sinh, a local resident, shared: "We are very proud of the San Diu ethnic identity. This cultural village is not only a place for community cultural activities but also helps introduce our traditional values to visitors from near and far."
When coming to the cultural village, visitors can enjoy specialties such as banh bo, banh duc, banh chung gu, banh bac dau... Participate in folk games such as tug of war, stick pushing, blindfolded duck catching.
Mr. Dao Van Vu - Vice Chairman of Van Don District People's Committee - said: Currently, the locality is building San Diu Ethnic Culture and Tourism Village to become a typical community tourism destination. The district has coordinated to invite 100 travel agencies and press agencies to experience and promote this destination. At the same time, the district encourages people to develop community tourism models, organize annual cultural and sports events here to attract tourists.
