It is his works that have shaped the national identity of Vietnam, and today his name is also used as the name of a Literature and Arts Award of Ha Tinh province.
The great poet Nguyen Du, The quintessence of Vietnamese literature
The great poet Nguyen Du (1766 - 1820), an outstanding son of his hometown Tien Dien, Nghi Xuan, Ha Tinh. His legal name is To Nhu, and his stage name is Thanh Hien. Nguyen Du was born in the capital of Thang Long, in a noble family with a long tradition of studying at the tables. His father, Mr. Hoang, was a brother of Nguyen Nghiem, who served as a Tham Tung (Ther General) under the reign of Le Trung Hung, his mother, Mrs. Tran Thi Tan, was from Kinh Bac.
Under the reign of King Le Hien Tong, in the 32nd year of Canh Hung (1771), the old King Hoang, who was attached to Nguyen Nghiem, ceased to hold the position of Tham Tung, Nguyen Du followed his father back to his hometown, from here his life began to encounter many different events. At the age of 13, Nguyen Du lost both his father and mother, and had to rely on his brothers and adoptive father.

At the age of 3, Nguyen Du was posthumously awarded the title of "Hoang Tin Dai Dan Thu Thu Ngac Ba". Considered to have been a dignitary under Le Trung Hung, Nguyen Du has been a member of the military club since he was a child. In 1783, Nguyen Du participated in the incense competition at Son Nam school, he passed the exams at the Three wheels, and was trained as a military officer by his adoptive father, Ha Mo, in Thai Nguyen. After that, he married the daughter of Dr. Doan Nguyen Thuc, named Doan Thi Hue, from An Hai village, Quynh Coi district, Son Nam town (now in Thai Binh province).
Although he passed the entrance exam and became an official under the Le Trung Hung and Nguyen dynasties, Nguyen Du was known in the future for his extensive literary career. Today, his works are loved by many people, and some excerpts from his works are also included in the literary education program for many generations of Vietnamese students.
Nguyen Du's works are mainly poems and literature, written in Han and Nom. Some of his typical Han works must be mentioned: "Thanh Hien tap", "Nam Trung tap tham", "Bac hanh tap luc"; the works in the Nom language include: "Van te thiet tai sinh", "Van te Truong Luu Nhi Nu", "Thac loi trai ban non", especially the work "Doan Truong Tan Thanh" (Kieu district).
Nguyen Du Commemorative Area
In 1820, King Gia Long passed away, King Minh Mang ascended to the throne, sent Nguyen Du to be the Chief of the Mission to the Qing Dynasty Tang and Cau Phong, but before he could go to the country, he died in Hue Citadel. After his death, in 1824, his descendants brought Nguyen Du's remains to his hometown to buried and built the church. Today, Nguyen Du Memorial Area is located in Hong Lam village, Tien Dien town, Nghi Xuan district with a total area of more than 28,500m2. Nguyen Du Memorial area consists of many different buildings and architectural items: writers, Nguyen Du church, altar and stone stele Nguyen Quynh, galleries, Lang Van Su area, grave of great poet Nguyen Du, temple and tomb of Xuan Cong district Nguyen Nghiem, Temple and Mo Nguyen Trong, old garden of great poet Nguyen Du.
In the 45th Canh Hung (1785), Nguyen Nghiem district built a private house on the land of the Nguyen family. This is the place where the science in the region gathered, Binh Tho and Binh Van. Over the years, the investor was remodeled in the third year of Tu Duc (1850) then in the 13th year of Tu Duc (1860).
The altar and stone stele Nguyen Quynh, led by Mr. Nguyen Nghiem and Nguyen Trong, built the 23rd Canh Hung (1762) to filial piety of his parents. The temple and the tomb of Xuan Cong Nguyen Nghiem in Minh Quang village with a total area of about 680m2, the architecture was built in a dual -shaped shape. The temple and tomb Nguyen Trong are located in Thuan My village, with a total area of nearly 1,000m2, the temple turned south.

Lang Van Su area is the place where the 3rd generation of Nguyen family in Tien Dien, Lang is located on the banks of the Lam River, bordering Dong, Luong Nang village. This is also the burial place of the Hien Cong Nguyen Hue - the 6th male leader of the Nguyen Tien Dien and Hien Cong Nguyen Khan - his brother and his father and his mother with the great poet Nguyen Du.
The old garden of the great poet Nguyen Du is located on Giap Tien land, Luong Nang village, this is the place where Nguyen Du rests whenever he returns to Tien Dien. In the first year of Minh Mang (1820) Nguyen Du died, the small house was renovated and rebuilt as his church. The great poet Nguyen Du was buried in the same field, turned to the West, formerly just a normal tomb, later on a visit, Dang Thai Mai built the stele recorded "Tien Dien Nguyen Tien was born the tomb", today the tomb has a total area of more than 3,200m2.
On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Great Poet Nguyen Du, the market of the market of Duc Nhan commune, Duc Tho district dating back to the 18th century was transferred to the souvenir area as a place to display artifacts associated with the life and career of Nguyen Du and the Nguyen Tien Dien family. Up to now, it is displaying nearly 1,000 valuable artifacts and documents related to Nguyen Du.
National heritage
Nguyen Du Memorial Area now retains many precious relics, not only displayed at the gallery but also saved at many relics. At Truong Ninh Pagoda, there is a stone stele of 114x70x18cm, beer placed on the back of the stone turtle size 130x78x30cm. At the Tu Van home yard, he still kept the stone stele called "Tien Kieu Bi Ky", beer built in the 5th Vinh Huu (1740), the reign of King Le Y Tong. The content of the beer recorded the historical event of the villagers meeting to discuss the repair of the bridge.
At the temple of Lam Khe Nguyen Trong - the uncle Nguyen Du also kept a stone stele called "Tich Thien Gia Huan", beer built in the 26th Canh Hung (1765) by Mr. Thua Chief of Lang Son, Nghi Nguyen Trong. The epitaph recorded the old product, about the Nguyen family's lineage, teaching their children and grandchildren to follow their ancestors to the examination of the exam, to keep the pattern, to keep filial piety, the army and patriotism.
Nguyen Du Memorial Area is a complex of monuments with architectural works worshiping and commemorating the great poet Nguyen Du and the talents of the Nguyen Tien Dien family. It preserves the cultural heritage of the homeland and the nation with special values of history, culture and science. Especially, the treasure of the massive literary works that Nguyen Du left for posterity, through these works we can learn more about his life and career and also from the remaining artifacts that can help those who love history and culture to know more about the customs and homeland.
On the occasion of the 240th anniversary of the birth of the Great Psalm Nguyen Du (1765-2005), the Government has set up and implemented the Master Planning Project of Nguyen Du Culture and Tourism Area. With special value, on September 27, 2012, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 1419/QD-TTg ranking Dai Thi Hao Nguyen Du relic area as a special national monument.
