UAE - Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai is expected to close for 18 months to carry out restoration.

This hotel, opened in 1999, is known for its luxurious interior, using Statuario marble, Swarovski crystals and 24 karat gold leaf.

Burj Al Arab has long become a symbol of the Dubai skyline, with sail-shaped designs appearing everywhere, from snowballs to refrigerator magnets.

Apart from Burj Khalifa - the tallest building in the world - few buildings have the same impact as this hotel.

After more than 25 years of operation, this super-luxury hotel will close for the first time to implement an 18-month restoration project.

The hotel includes 198 suites, owned by the Jumeirah Group hotel group, highlighted by its luxury: 86,500 handmade Swarovski crystals, more than 30 types of Statuario marble and about 1,790 m2 of 24-carat gold leaf used in the interior.

Not only prominent in architecture and interior, the service at the hotel is also iconic. Each suite has a private landlord to serve all customer needs, along with a Rolls-Royce fleet that can be rented by the hour.

Burj Al Arab was also the setting for many attention-grabbing promotions, such as the tennis match on a helicopter pitch at a height of about 210 m between Roger Federer and Andre Agassi in 2005, or David Coulthard's F1 car show in 2013.

Pilot Luke Czepiela landed the plane on a helicopter landing pad with a diameter of only 27 m during a Red Bull show in 2023.

Interior architect Tristan Auer was assigned to be in charge of the project, with the orientation of "upgrading the characteristic interior details with meticulousness like preserving an artwork".

Previously, he participated in renovating works such as Hôtel de Crillon and Les Bains Douches, and was also honored as "Designer of the Year" at the Maison&Objet 2017 event.

This information was released after the hotel was damaged by debris from intercepting an Iranian drone on March 1. According to the Dubai Media Office, the incident caused a small fire on the exterior of the building.
