The boat trips cross the waves to sea during the Nghinh Ong Can Gio celebration in Ho Chi Minh City

Ngay 7.10, trong khong khi trang nghiem va ron rang cua Le hoi Nghinh Ong Can Gio 2025, doan ghe cua ngu dan noi duoi ra khoi, mang theo uoc vong mua thuan gio hoa va mot mua bien binh an.

On October 7, in the solemn and bustling atmosphere of the Nghinh Ong Can Gio Festival 2025, the fishing boat convoy followed the fishermen to sea, bringing the hope of favorable weather and a peaceful sea season.

Le ruoc Nghinh Ong xuat phat tu Lang Ong Thuy Tuong, di chuyen qua ben do Co khi, ben do Tac xuat roi ra khoi lam le.

The Nghinh Ong procession starts from Ong Thuy Tuong Mausoleum, moves through Mechanical ferry terminal, Tac xuat ferry terminal and then goes out to sea for the festival.

The ceremony troupe moved down to the main boat, before starting the Nghinh Ong Marriage Ceremony.

Many people and tourists also boarded a boat with the group to go to sea, immersing themselves in the typical festive atmosphere of the Can Gio sea area.

Moi chiec ghe deu rop co ruc ro, dai dien cho hinh anh va mong muon vuon khoi, khai thac thuy hai san gan bo voi doi song ngu dan bao doi nay.

Each boat is covered with a brilliant flag, representing the image and desire to go out to sea, exploiting seafood associated with the lives of fishermen for generations.

Hoa cung dong nguoi tap nap, ong Tran Dinh Ngoan (TPHCM) cho hay day la lan dau tien duoc trai nghiem khong khi le hoi tren bien. “Toi cam thay vui va thich thu khi chung kien doan thuyen ruc ro co hoa, tieng trong lan vang ron va canh ba con dua le vat xuong ghe de ra khoi ruoc Nghinh Ong” – ong Ngoan hao hung chia se.

Joining the bustling crowd, Mr. Tran Dinh Ngoan (HCMC) said this was the first time he had experienced the festive atmosphere at sea. I felt happy and excited to witness the boatload of brilliant flags and flowers, the loud sound of lion drums and the scene of people bringing offerings down to the boat to go on the Nghinh Ong sea route, Mr. Ngoan excitedly shared.

For fisherman Phan Thanh Hiep - owner of one of the boats participating in the procession, the Nghinh Ong procession ceremony is a sacred custom associated with the age-old sea profession. "Since following my father to sea at the age of 15, I have been attached to the sea for more than 40 years. For me, the festival is an opportunity for my children to continue the tradition and preserve the unique culture of Can Gio fishermen" - Mr. Hiep said.

The Nginh Ong boat groups turn the waves, carrying their wishes, hoping for favorable weather and a bumper harvest for the people of the coastal areas.

Theo UBND xa Can Gio, Le hoi Nghinh Ong Can Gio la Di san van hoa phi vat the Quoc gia va cung la le hoi truyen thong duy nhat cua ngu dan dia phuong duoc to chuc thuong nien. Le hoi nham giu gin va phat huy cac gia tri van hoa truyen thong cua dia phuong, gop phan xay dung va phat trien nen van hoa Viet Nam tien tien, dam da ban sac dan toc. Le hoi nam nay dien ra trong 3 ngay (5 -7.10) tai xa Can Gio.

According to the People's Committee of Can Gio commune, the Nghinh Ong Can Gio Festival is a National Intangible Cultural Heritage and also the only traditional festival of local fishermen held annually. The festival aims to preserve and promote traditional cultural values of the locality, contributing to building and developing an advanced Vietnamese culture with strong national identity. This year's festival takes place for 3 days (October 5-7) in Can Gio commune.
