On April 8, the Sub-Department of Environmental Protection (Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City) coordinated with the People's Committees of Vung Tau and Tam Thang wards to survey the actual sea area of Vung Tau, before information that seawater changed color, scum appeared, and foam appeared, causing many people to be hesitant.
Recorded at the time of the survey, the weather was sunny and beautiful, the sea water was clear, odorless, and there were no unusual phenomena. Through this, the survey team assessed that the marine environmental status has basically stabilized, seawater has returned to normal and swimming activities are taking place safely.
However, on the beach, in some places, lumps of oil appear in small quantities. Therefore, functional forces have organized collection and treatment to ensure hygiene and aesthetics of the beach.
According to the People's Committee of Vung Tau ward, previously, in early April 2026, abnormal phenomena occurred in the Vung Tau sea area such as: water near the shore changing green, some places turning purple, water surface floating, appearing many foams... The locality has coordinated with functional units to take water samples for analysis, but so far there have been no official results.
However, the phenomenon of water changing color, floating, and many foams is identified as due to the influence of strongly developing microalgae in the hot season combined with tides, and only occurs for a few days.
Oil clumps drifting ashore are also identified as often occurring annually, brought ashore by sea currents from offshore, but this year the number is less than in previous years.
The results of coastal seawater monitoring in Vung Tau in March 2026 in the Vung Tau area also showed that the parameters were all within the permissible standards.
