Mat Than Mountain, also known as Phja Piot (meaning mountain with holes), is located in Cao Chuong commune, Trung Khanh district, Cao Bang province. This is one of the special destinations on the Eastern tourist route "Experiencing indigenous culture in the land of fairies" of Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark.
The mountain stands out with a round hole located in the middle of the mountain's back, with a diameter of up to 50 meters - a unique masterpiece formed during the geological formation process tens of millions of years ago.

According to scientists, this hole is actually a dry cave - or fossil cave - formed more than 300 million years ago, when this area was once the bottom of the ancient ocean. Over time, the movement to raise the grotto during the renovation period has pushed it up, leaving behind the traces it is today.
This is a rare geological phenomenon, making Mat Than Mountain a mountain with a large and unique trans flap in Vietnam, a vivid testament to the history of the formation of the limestone mountain system in the Northeast region.

Located about 30 km from the center of Cao Bang city, Mat Than mountain area appears like a large steppe with an airy, peaceful space.
The grassland surrounded by green mountains, endlessly extended, is where buffaloes and cows and horses leisurely grazed, creating a landscape that is both wild and poetic.
Recorded on April 17, Nam Tra Lake near the treacherous mountain area, the landscape became even more magical with lush green grass extending to the foot of the mountain.

This is also the ideal time to camp, take photos, or simply enjoy the quietness of majestic nature. Mr. Nguyen Hoang Quan (a tourist from Hanoi) - shared: "Nui Mat Than is the first place that my group has played when coming to Cao Bang, the scenery here is wonderful".
With its special geological value, spectacular landscape and rich indigenous culture, Mat Than Mountain is not only an attractive destination but also a vivid symbol of the harmony between nature and the people of the mountainous areas of Cao Bang.

The Mountain of the Gods was also ranked by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to rank the national landscape under Decision No. 1988/QD-BVHTTDL dated June 29, 2021.
