Experts explain Vietnam's increasing attraction to Singaporean tourists

Vietnam is rapidly consolidating its position as one of the most popular destinations for Singaporean tourists in Southeast Asia.

Vietnam has emerged as a new destination attracting Singaporean tourists thanks to its strong spread on social networks and stable tourism growth, according to local media.

Tourism revenue has increased sharply for decades, from 1.34 billion VND (50,886 USD) in 1990 to 355,000 billion VND in 2010 and reaching 840,000 billion VND in 2024, according to data from the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism.

Experts believe that Vietnam's growth momentum comes from structural foundations such as political stability, a solid education system and increasingly improved infrastructure.

Mr. Gareth Leather, senior Asian economic expert at Capital Economics, said that these factors help Vietnam maintain stable growth and consolidate its position on the regional tourism map.

Vietnam's attractiveness lies in the combination of cultural depth, diverse landscapes and reasonable costs. Bustling street life, famous cuisine and health and beauty care services at competitive prices are increasingly attracting young tourists from Singapore and many other markets.

Nadia, a 25-year-old Singaporean tourist, who has been to Ho Chi Minh City twice in just 6 months, said that convenience of travel, attractive cost along with shopping and bustling cuisine are the main factors attracting her. Nadia spent about 700 SGD (14.5 million VND) on her latest Ho Chi Minh City trip.

Vietnam's tourism prospects remain positive, as management agencies set a target of welcoming about 50 million international visitors by 2030.

Global hotel corporations are also stepping up investment, driven by increased tourism demand, improved living standards and increasingly better connectivity.

Many large-scale projects are being implemented to expand service capacity, with the participation of international investors in resort and hotel projects in destinations such as Phu Quoc and Vung Tau.

Improved aviation connectivity also contributes to boosting demand. The number of passengers from Singapore to Vietnam increased by 15.5% compared to the same period in 2025, thanks to new routes.

Low-cost airline Scoot opened a flight route to Phu Quoc in December 2024, then continued to operate the route to Nha Trang in November 2025.

However, there are still risks when geopolitical tensions and volatile energy prices can affect global growth and reduce tourism demand.

Increased costs can also make tourists more sensitive about prices.

However, the outlook for the industry is still positively assessed.

In the first quarter of 2026, Vietnam recorded the fastest tourism growth in the region, welcoming 6.76 million international visitors, an increase of 12.4% compared to the same period last year, according to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism. Key markets such as mainland China, South Korea and Taiwan continue to play an important role in maintaining demand.
