On August 7, the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies organized a scientific seminar on "Starting green transformation programs in Con Dao special zone", with the participation of experts and local leaders.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Mr. Le Anh Tu - Secretary of the Con Dao Special Zone Party Committee - informed that Ba Ria - Vung Tau province was previously very interested in the development of Con Dao, and had developed many green transformation programs and circular economic projects for Con Dao. To date, Con Dao has carried out and completed 15/19 tasks, and is reviewing to implement the next tasks.
Thereby, the locality has had outstanding results such as: tourists coming to Con Dao do not use plastic products; use "Green Basket" when visiting Hang Duong cemetery and relics; treat wastewater in a circular manner. At the same time, raise awareness, gradually change the habits of people and tourists.
To do this, it is necessary to go through a process and a partnership, so that when talking about Green Con Dao, it is not only the green of the forest and sea, but also the green of the subconscious, the action, the habit - Mr. Le Anh Tu emphasized.
According to Associate Professor - Dr. Phan Thuc Anh (VinUni University), Con Dao is developing with a very special mission, which is to become a "Low-carbon Heritage Island", not only in Vietnam, but also reaching international standards. Con Dao will be a "green gem" in the ocean, a space for specific policies, inspiring and spreading to other localities.
According to Dr. Vu Minh Tam (VinUni University), the green transportation solution, integrating digital transformation is one of the foundations to achieve the above goal. In particular, it is possible to convert all vehicles to electric vehicles before 2030 and build charging stations, replace batteries; or operate new electric bus routes; develop wind power, solar power, especially in offices and hotels.
A representative of the Public Transport Management Center (Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction) commented that the goal is to develop a green, smart transportation system that is suitable for the ecological and residential characteristics of Con Dao.
The center has proposed opening a number of new electric bus routes in Con Dao special area. Currently, the Department of Construction is reviewing the planning of traffic infrastructure, wharves... to invest, renovate synchronous infrastructure, select exploitation and investment units.
In addition, there are also many opinions contributed by professors and experts, aiming to develop Con Dao into a green destination for Vietnam and the world in the coming time.
Mr. Le Anh Tu acknowledged and highly appreciated the practical contributions of experts and scientists, and pledged that the locality will coordinate well with competent authorities to implement, towards the goal of building a stronger, larger Con Dao special zone and increasingly sustainable development.
I hope that investors will be ready to join hands with the locality for mutual development. In addition, the government will also have preferential policies and mechanisms to support investors according to the provisions of law, Mr. Tu emphasized.
The electric bus routes in Con Dao Special Zone are expected to operate including:
- Con Dao airport route to the center of the special zone;
- Ben Dam port route to the center of the special zone;
- Central route serving Con Dao people;
- The route connects the central area with the Northwest of Con Dao;
- The route connects the central area with the Southeast;
- The route connecting the Northwest - Southeast region;
- Routes pass through tourist areas to serve tourists.
