Via dell'Amore (The Love Road) was closed after a landslide in 2012 and underwent a renovation phase. A part of this walking route reopened to visitors from September 30.
According to the Italian Ministry of Tourism, reopening this road was quite complex due to its location along a treacherous cliff. It has been considered a technical challenge for many years.
The official renovation project began on January 14, 2022, and was completed on July 19, 2024. The total cost amounted to 24 million USD.
According to CNN, from July 27 to August 8, the road was exclusively open to residents of Cinque Terre, Levanto, La Spezia, and former residents along with property owners in the town of Riomaggiore and their families.

Starting from August 9, Via dell'Amore officially opened to tourists. Visitors will need to book in advance and pay a fee of about 11 USD for a guide throughout the tour.
When stepping onto the romantic road, tourists will be immersed in the scenery between mountains and sea, with statues and benches depicting the gods of love.
Built in the 1920s, the road quickly became an ideal dating spot where couples could enjoy romantic moments together amidst nature.
The name "The Love Road" originates from the romantic love stories of the locals. Lovers often come here to walk hand in hand along the seaside, enjoying the wonderful romantic atmosphere.
Especially, the road is a place to keep love locks. On the iron fence, couples attach locks engraved with their names and their lover's names and then throw the keys into the sea, symbolizing enduring love, never to be separated.
Each season of the year, Via dell'Amore brings its own beauty. In spring, blooming flowers create a vibrant natural picture.
In summer, the sky is clear blue, and the golden sunlight sparkles on the sea surface. In autumn, the leaves turn yellow and red, creating a romantic scene. And in winter, the cold air along with the mist creates a mysterious and serene atmosphere.
