As the new year 2025 dawned, thousands of people counted down to New Year’s Eve. The crowd erupted in cheers as fireworks lit up the sky over Hanoi.
On the evening of December 31, thousands of people flocked to Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square, where a vibrant countdown music event took place to welcome 2025.
At the Hang Bai - Hang Khay intersection, thousands of people were standing watching the fireworks.
To get the best spot to watch the art show and fireworks, many young people arrived 3-4 hours before the event to reserve a spot.
Nguyen Tan Minh (Thai Nguyen) said he had to travel 70km to celebrate the New Year in Hanoi and queued from 6pm.
"This is the first time I've celebrated the New Year in the capital. I've never seen such a crowded space. Although the streets are very narrow and the air is hot because of the influx of people from everywhere, I feel very excited because I can feel everyone joining in the excitement of welcoming the New Year," the male tourist shared.
Coming from Nghe An to the capital to celebrate New Year's Eve with her family, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Lan Nhi (Vinh City) said that the New Year's Eve atmosphere in Hanoi was very joyful. "I am very happy to be able to celebrate this special moment in a special place with my loved ones. Although the winter weather is quite cold, the atmosphere is very warm," she said.
Amidst the crowds waiting for the New Year, Vo Hong Anh (Hoang Mai district, Hanoi) said she had only seen crowded New Year's Eve on screens, TV, newspapers, etc.
"When I actually experienced it, I saw how crowded and bustling it was. I witnessed a couple proposing, which was very meaningful at this important moment," she said about her first experience welcoming the New Year at a countdown event in the center of the capital.
