On the evening of November 17, the program "Introducing the art of Then singing and Tinh musical instruments of the Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups" took place. The Hanoi People's Committee, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, in coordination with the Department of Ethnic Culture (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) organized a performance program to introduce the art of Then singing and Tinh musical instruments of the Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups at a special cultural space on the Hoan Kiem Lake walking street.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy attended the program; also attending were Director of the Department of Ethnic Culture Nguyen Thi Hai Nhung; Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Tran Thi Van Anh; representatives of agencies and units under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; artisans and actors from 14 provinces and cities participating in the 7th Then singing and Tinh lute art festival of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups.
Speaking at the program, Ms. Tran Thi Van Anh, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, emphasized that through performances introducing the art of Then singing and Tinh playing, the artists and actors of 14 art troupes will continue to shine, bringing Then lyrics and Tinh playing containing the unique national identity of the region and homeland to a large audience in the capital.
The program is also a heartfelt thank you to celebrate the Traditional Day of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the National Great Unity Day on November 18 and the anniversary of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day on November 23.
Head of the Department of Ethnic Culture Nguyen Thi Hai Nhung emphasized: “With its unique artistic values, Then has contributed to fostering the spirit of ethnic minorities. The aspiration to rise up and build a prosperous and happy life of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic minorities has been passed down from generation to generation.”
The Then cultural heritage of the Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups in Vietnam is a unique form of folk art and culture of creative working people, closely associated with daily working life; becoming an essential need in the spiritual life of ethnic people.
Artists and actors from 14 art troupes from Hanoi, Bac Giang, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Bac Kan, Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Son La, Dak Nong, Dak Lak, and Lam Dong brought unique performances of Then singing and Tinh lute.
Then melodies and Tinh lute sounds, sometimes deep, sometimes high, sometimes solemn, bustling, sometimes elegant, touching, heartbreaking… attract a large audience in the capital. In addition to the beauty of the lyrics and melody, Then singing is also charming in the choreography and the beauty of traditional handicrafts in costumes and props in the rituals.
On the sidelines of the art performance program, a parade of 14 art troupes on the afternoon of November 17 and a photo exhibition with the theme of the Artistic Heritage of Then singing and Tinh lute also took place, attracting the attention of many people and tourists.
This is not only an opportunity for artisans to exchange and share experiences, but also an opportunity for the public and domestic and foreign tourists to better understand the value of Vietnam's intangible cultural heritage.
