The first Then singing and Tinh lute art festival takes place in Hanoi

Hanoi - The 7th Then singing and Tinh lute art festival of the Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups in 2024 will take place at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism.

Explaining the choice of organizing the festival in Hanoi instead of other localities, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy said that the art of Then singing and Tinh lute has spread to many other provinces and cities, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and the Central Highlands, where Then singing and Tinh lute clubs are active. Therefore, organizing the festival in Hanoi will help spread this unique traditional art more widely to the people and tourists.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Nhung - Director of the Department of Ethnic Culture, said that the 7th Then singing and Tinh lute art festival of the Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups in 2024 will have the participation of more than 400 artisans, artists, and actors from 14 provinces and cities. This is a meaningful activity to honor, preserve, and promote the fine traditional cultural values ​​of the Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups in the unified and diverse culture of the community of 54 Vietnamese ethnic groups.

The festival is an opportunity for localities to exchange, learn, and share experiences, contributing to raising awareness and consciousness in preserving and maintaining national cultural identity, promoting the value of the Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on "Then Practice of the Tay, Nung, and Thai People in Vietnam" which was recognized by UNESCO on December 12, 2019.

The main activities of the Festival will take place at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism from November 15 to 24, including: Performances and introductions of Then singing and Tinh lute; displays of traditional cultural products; demonstrations of traditional brocade weaving and Tinh lute making of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups.

In addition, there is the display, processing and introduction of traditional ethnic cuisine; photo exhibition "Heritage of Then singing - Tinh lute art"; thematic exhibition "Then cultural heritage in the life of Tay, Nung, Thai ethnic groups".

Within the framework of the Festival, participating delegations will visit President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum; visit the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam, Ngoc Son Temple; parade along the route: Hai Ba Trung - Trang Tien - Dinh Tien Hoang - Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square; perform and introduce the art of Then singing and Tinh lute at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square.

Parallel to the Festival is the Week of "Great Unity of Ethnic Groups - Vietnamese Cultural Heritage" in 2024 with many activities imbued with the traditional cultural colors of ethnic groups: Great Unity Day of the Nation, performance, exchange and introduction of the culture of ethnic groups of Dong Nai province, Cultural Exchange Day of ethnic groups of the Southwest, ethnic groups of the Central Highlands, and ethnic groups of the North.

The 2024 “Great National Unity - Vietnamese Cultural Heritage” Week will take place from November 15 to November 24 at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism. The event will be attended by more than 100 people from 16 communities operating daily at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in localities such as Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, Ha Giang, Hoa Binh, Son La, Thua Thien Hue, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Dak Lak, Ninh Thuan, and Soc Trang.

In addition, there are also 25 Cho Ro ethnic people from Dong Nai province; ethnic artists and extras from several localities participating in the 7th Then singing and Tinh lute art festival of the Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups in 2024 at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism.

The 2024 "Great National Unity - Vietnamese Cultural Heritage" Week contributes to preserving and promoting the tradition of great national unity; honoring the cultural heritage of Vietnamese ethnic groups; enhancing cultural, sports and tourism exchange activities, practically celebrating the 94th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (November 18, 1930 - November 18, 2024) and commemorating Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23); honoring the spirit of great national unity, a precious tradition and cultural heritage of our nation, forged through thousands of years of national construction and defense.
