Gia Lai proposes central government to support the operation of international charter flights

Gia Lai proposed that the Central Government support the completion of conditions to soon exploit international charter flights to the province, expanding the international passenger market.

Over the past time, Gia Lai province has focused on synchronously implementing tourism development tasks, investing in completing infrastructure to serve socio-economic development, and gradually improving the capacity to welcome domestic and international tourists.

These efforts have brought positive results. In the first 6 months of 2026, Gia Lai welcomed about 8.75 million visitors, an increase of 19% compared to the same period in 2025. Of which, international visitors reached 129,300, an increase of 78.6%. Total revenue from tourism reached more than 19,000 billion VND, equivalent to 54.3% of the annual plan.

In particular, the province is accelerating the progress of completing runway No. 2 at Phu Cat Airport, expected to be completed and put into operation in August 2026, creating conditions to receive wide-body aircraft and open direct international routes to Gia Lai.

Along with investing in aviation infrastructure, the province is also urgently preparing conditions to serve the exploitation of the international tourist market. In which, focusing on improving the quality of tourism products, accommodation facilities, human resource training, promoting digital transformation and building a civilized, safe, and friendly tourism environment.

The locality also proactively works with airlines and large travel businesses to develop plans to operate international charter flights.

To date, Bamboo Airways is ready to coordinate in researching and operating international charter flights to Phu Cat Airport immediately after infrastructure and operational conditions are completed.

To effectively exploit aviation infrastructure after investment and expand the international tourist market, Gia Lai province proposes that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism support tourism promotion and advertising in key international markets; connect travel groups and international tourism businesses to build programs to bring tourists to Gia Lai by charter flights.

The province proposed to pay attention to building mechanisms and policies to support the exploitation of key international tourist markets, especially China, Korea, Japan and Northeast Asian countries, creating conditions for Gia Lai to pilot programs to bring international tourists to the locality by charter flights.

Gia Lai also requested the Ministry of Construction to direct Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), Central Vietnam Air Traffic Management Company, Air Traffic Management Technical Co., Ltd. (ATTECH) and related parties to support the early completion of procedures for performing standard flights, putting Phu Cat Airport into commercial operation of charter flights according to plan.

At the same time, directing the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to create conditions in appraising and approving flight conditions and licensing the operation of non-scheduled international flights to and from Phu Cat Airport.

The province also proposed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs support the promotion of the province's image and tourist destinations through the system of Vietnamese representative offices abroad; connect localities, organizations, businesses and international partners to promote cooperation and expand the international tourist market in the 2026-2030 period.
