On December 1, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City organized the opening ceremony of the 2024 Can Tho City Ngo Boat Racing Championship.
This year's race has more than 200 athletes from 13 units (8 Khmer pagodas in Can Tho city and 5 Cultural, Sports and Broadcasting Centers of Co Do district, Phong Dien district, Ninh Kieu district, Binh Thuy district, Thot Not district) participating.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Truong Cong Quoc Viet - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, said that the Ngo boat race was organized to practically celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024), the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024) and continue to promote the campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho".
The event aims to meet the people's need for cultural and sports enjoyment, enhance understanding, exchange and solidarity between localities; develop attractive and entertaining sports associated with the life and typical means of living of the river region.
This is also one of the activities to celebrate the Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong Delta Trade Tourism Week in Can Tho City in 2024.
Accordingly, the Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City hopes that the athletes participating in the competition will strictly comply with the Regulations of the Organizing Committee; demonstrate ethical style, cultural behavior, solidarity and honesty in competition to dedicate and serve the audience with high determination performances, spectacular, exciting and attractive breakthroughs.
After fierce competition, the Phong Dien District Culture, Sports and Broadcasting Center won the First Prize. The Second and Third Prizes respectively went to Pitu Khosa Rangsay Pagoda and the Thot Not District Culture, Sports and Broadcasting Center.
