The Hanoi People's Committee has just issued an official dispatch requesting agencies, businesses, hotels, restaurants, schools, community activities and households to open free toilets to serve people and tourists on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2.
The city also encourages long-term maintenance of this model as a beauty of community culture.
According to the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, this year's holiday is expected to have about 30,000 - 40,000 people participating in parades and parades and millions of tourists coming to Hanoi to visit and experience.
However, the whole city currently has only 351 public toilets, most of which are degraded and do not meet the needs.
Previously, from March 2025, Truc Bach ward (old Ba Dinh district) piloted the " Free Restroom" model, with 24 households, restaurants, and accommodation facilities voluntarily opening toilets for free to people crossing the street. The model is applied on busy streets such as Truc Bach, Hang Than, Ngu Xa... contributing to enhancing the image of the locality in the eyes of tourists.
In Ho Chi Minh City, a similar model has been implemented since 2023, and by the end of 2024, there will be about 1,900 responding facilities.
The Hanoi People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to coordinate with the Department of Culture and Sports and districts to build a set of free toilet identification, publicly post and widely inform the people.
In addition, the city also developed a plan to ensure health, environmental sanitation, food safety and arrange a permanent emergency force throughout the event.
