To welcome the Lunar New Year of At Ty, on January 18, The Cliff Resort in Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan held the 12th Banh Chung Festival for guests staying there.
The most special thing about the festival is that international visitors compete to wrap banh chung with dong leaves. Visitors from many countries such as Australia, Finland, Korea... wore costumes with traditional patterns of Vietnamese ethnic groups and wrapped banh chung themselves.
Before the competition begins, visitors are guided through the steps of wrapping the cakes; resort receptionists stand next to visitors to provide further instructions.
From ingredients such as sticky rice, green beans, pork, dong leaves, bamboo strings and cake molds, tourists meticulously carry out each step of arranging leaves into the mold, adding sticky rice, green beans, pork, and tying the cake with bamboo strings. Completing a banh chung is an emotional experience for many tourists, especially international visitors.
This year's Banh Chung Festival is held in the days leading up to the Lunar New Year 2025, with the chilly air creating a unique taste of Tet for visitors.
Mr. Bernier, a tourist from Australia, said: “I really like the atmosphere and space here, the festival makes everyone very happy and excited, the Tet flowers here are so colorful and I can feel the joyful atmosphere of the Vietnamese people celebrating Tet. Making banh chung is not easy for me, but I still find it very interesting.”
At the Banh Chung Festival space, there are also booths recreating some traditional Tet activities such as: Calligraphy, making to he, bamboo leaf crickets, culinary booths with dishes such as Banh Chung, Banh Tet...
Visitors coming here can both immerse themselves in the bustling atmosphere of the traditional Tet holiday and explore and learn about traditional Vietnamese Tet cuisine.
