On September 2, Mr. Bui Quoc Thai - Director of Kien Giang Department of Tourism said that during the September 2nd holiday this year, the locality is expected to welcome more than 90,000 visitors. Phu Quoc Island alone welcomed more than 42,000 visitors.
Of which, international visitors were over 9,400; visitors to tourist areas and attractions were over 60,000; and overnight guests were over 30,000. Total revenue from tourism reached over 217 billion VND.
According to the reporter, in the first 2 days of the holiday, most tourists chose Kien Giang's island destinations such as Hon Son and Nam Du (Kien Hai) and Phu Quoc City as places to visit and relax. Train tickets for the first 2 days of the holiday were sold out very early.
Mr. Bui Quoc Thai also said that the department requires localities to strengthen inspection and supervision of tourism activities during the holidays, especially at tourist areas and entertainment areas to prevent and promptly correct acts of providing poor quality goods and services; arbitrarily increasing prices; causing environmental pollution; and causing social evils.
Inspecting at wharves, bus stations, and inland waterway ports to ensure compliance with regulations on ensuring traffic safety, safety for tourists, and quality of service for passengers; supervising the implementation of tourism promotion programs.
In addition, the Department also requires localities and businesses to pay attention to good preparation, products and services are consolidated and renewed, and some new products are put into operation to serve tourists.
However, the number of domestic tourists to Kien Giang during the September 2nd holiday has not met expectations. High airfares are also one of the reasons why tourists change their choices; international tourists have increased compared to the same period last year.
