On June 18, information from Lai Chau Provincial People's Committee said that the proposed plan to establish Muong Te Nature Reserve is located in 2 communes Mu Ca and Ta Tong.
This is one of the most characteristic regions in the country in terms of vegetation ecosystems in the Northwest region, especially forests over 1,000 m high with high and very high biodiversity.
Muong Te Nature Reserve is one of the areas that still preserves a large and relatively intact primeval forest area in the Northwest region.
With a proposed total area of 30,440 ha, spread over 17 sub-areas, adjacent to China, the forest plays an important ecological corridor, ensuring habitat connection and maintaining gene flows between wildlife populations in the area, contributing to biodiversity conservation.

The establishment of Muong Te Nature Reserve aims to maintain the forest cover rate of the entire area to at least 90%, increasing to over 91% by 2030 and preserving intact 8 types of vegetation at altitudes from 300 to nearly 1,900 m; preserving endangered, precious, and rare species.
The plan to establish the Muong Te Nature Reserve is implemented in 4 phases: Phase I (from 2026 - 2028); phase II (from 2029 - 2030); phase III (from 2031 - 2033); phase IV (from 2034 - 2035).
