Lao Cai hopes to turn the Red River Festival into a national event

Lao Cai - The Red River Festival is expected to be held periodically every 2 years and aims to expand its scale to become a National Cultural - Tourism event, with international elements.

On the afternoon of November 10, Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee held a press conference to inform about the Red River Festival - Lao Cai 2025 with the theme "Where the Red River flows into Vietnam", taking place from November 18 to 24, in Lao Cai, Cam Duong wards and some communes and wards in the area.

This is the first time the Festival has been held, the largest event of Lao Cai province after the merger of Yen Bai and Lao Cai provinces.

The Opening Ceremony of the Red River Festival - Lao Cai 2025 took place at 8:00 p.m. on November 19, at Nam Cuong Square, Cam Duong Ward, Lao Cai Province with the highlight being a unique, unique and modern art program with the participation of more than 1,000 artisans, actors and many attractive programs and events.

Speaking at the press conference, Ms. Vu Thi Hien Hanh - Vice Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Festival Organizing Committee, said that the event was organized in coordination with the provinces and cities in the Red River basin of Vietnam and Hong Ha province (Yunan province, China).

The festival contributes to spreading the unique cultural values of the ethnic groups in the Red River basin, creating conditions for exchange, connecting the community, and enhancing the level of enjoyment of people's culture.

Preserving and promoting intangible cultural heritage associated with space of relics, festivals, and traditional arts; contributing to building a sustainable cultural and social foundation, strengthening the great national unity bloc.

This is an event of important political, diplomatic, economic and cultural significance; contributing to creating momentum to promote economic growth, expand cooperation and foreign relations between Lao Cai province in particular, the Red River basin provinces of Vietnam in general and Yunnan province of China.

The event affirms the strategic position of Lao Cai in the region, associated with the historical and cultural flow of the Red River civilization.

In particular, it is determined that in the period of 2025-2027, the provincial-level festival will have the participation of a number of provinces in the Red River basin of Vietnam and the Red Sea ( Yunnan province - China).

In the 2027-2035 period, it will be expanded to a national scale, with the coordination and support of central ministries and branches, aiming to build the Festival into a national cultural - tourism event with international elements.

The organization period is carried out periodically every 2 years.

According to the representative of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Lao Cai is the gateway land of the Fatherland, upstream of the Red River - the mother river associated with the history of formation and development of cultures of the ancient Vietnamese people.
