The Ministry of Home Affairs has sent official letters to ministries, branches and localities on the implementation of the holiday schedule for major holidays in 2026, in which it clarifies information related to the Hung Kings Commemoration holiday schedule and January 30 - May 1.
Accordingly, the holiday schedule is applied in accordance with the provisions of the 2019 Labor Code and there is no policy to adjust or swap working days to extend the holiday.
Previously, information appeared that workers could have continuous leave of up to 9 days thanks to swapping working days with weekly holidays.
However, the Ministry of Home Affairs affirmed that it did not propose this option and the holiday schedule remained the same as announced from October 2025.

Accordingly, the Hung Kings Commemoration Day holiday (March 10th of the lunar calendar) in 2026 falls on Sunday (April 26th of the solar calendar). Due to coinciding with the weekend holiday, workers will have compensatory leave on Monday (April 27th). The holiday lasts for 3 consecutive days, from April 25th to the end of April 27th.
For the holiday schedule from April 30 to May 1, according to regulations, employees are entitled to 2 official days off. If applying a fixed Saturday and Sunday leave regime, the holiday can last 4 consecutive days, from April 30 to May 3.
Notably, these two holidays take place close together. After the Hung Kings Commemoration holiday ends, workers return to work on 2 days, April 28 and April 29, before continuing to enter the April 30 - May 1 holiday. The normal working time is from May 4.
The Ministry of Home Affairs requests ministries, branches, and localities to implement the holiday schedule in accordance with current regulations, and at the same time coordinate unified implementation. For the business sector, in addition to the prescribed holiday schedule, employers can proactively arrange appropriate holiday schedules based on agreements with employees, in order to ensure production and business activities.
With the Hung Kings Commemoration and April 30 - May 1 holidays taking place close together, many experts predict that travel and travel demand will increase sharply during this period. People and tourists are recommended to proactively arrange plans, book air tickets and accommodation early to avoid overload and high service prices during peak seasons.
