The Ministry of Home Affairs issued Notice No. 9441/TB-BNV on the National Day holiday schedule for 2026 for administrative agencies, public service units, political organizations, socio-political organizations, businesses and employers to implement.
Accordingly, the holiday schedule for civil servants and public employees includes 2 days according to regulations, including September 2, 2026 and 1 consecutive day earlier, September 1, 2026.
At the same time, the Ministry of Home Affairs implements the plan to swap the working day from Monday, August 31, 2026 to the weekly holiday of Saturday, August 22, 2026. Civil servants and public employees will be off on August 31 and make up for work on August 22. With this plan, the National Day holiday schedule for civil servants and public employees lasts for 5 consecutive days, from Saturday, August 29, to the end of Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
For agencies and units that do not implement fixed Saturday and Sunday weekly leave, the arrangement of holiday schedules is based on the work program, work plan and specific operations of each unit, ensuring compliance with legal regulations.
For employees at enterprises, the 2026 National Day holiday schedule is implemented according to the provisions of the Labor Code.
Employers decide to choose one of two holiday options: Wednesday, September 2, 2026 and Tuesday, September 1, 2026; or Wednesday, September 2, 2026 and Thursday, September 3, 2026.
Businesses must notify employees of the 2026 National Day holiday schedule at least 30 days before implementation.
The Ministry of Home Affairs encourages employers to apply the National Day holiday schedule in 2026 similar to the holiday schedule of civil servants and public employees, i.e., 5 consecutive days off from August 29 to September 2, 2026. Businesses and employees are encouraged to agree on a more profitable holiday plan for employees, suitable to the production and business conditions of each unit.
With 5-day holidays, tourists can proactively plan short trips or combine many destinations. The Northern region can choose Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Ha Long or Sa Pa; the Central region is suitable for Da Nang, Hue, Quy Nhon; while Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Da Lat are choices that many tourists are interested in in the Southern region.
Tourists should book air tickets, trains and accommodation early because National Day holiday is usually a time when travel demand is high. For coastal destinations or mountainous areas, it is necessary to monitor weather forecasts before the trip, especially in the context that August and early September still have the possibility of heavy rain, thunderstorms or unfavorable weather patterns.
If traveling by road, tourists should check the traffic situation, choose a suitable departure time and limit traveling during peak hours. For long trips of 3-5 days, you can prioritize destinations with many experiential groups such as resorts, nature sightseeing and cultural exploration to take advantage of holidays.
